Crap result but I thought Mbia looked good. Big, solid, beastly. Him and Nelsen together will be brilliant!

I thought he looked weak. Was rash in the challenge, kept getting drawn out of position leaving space behind him. You could see him wanting to venture forward a lot like a midfielder and his passing was atrocious at times. He must have tried 3 or 4 ridiculous Hollywood passes.
First game: Arsenal vs Queen's Park Rangers at Highbury, Saturday 17th November 1984.

obviously its going to take him time to get used to the game over here. Thought he looked decent, not spectacular.

I thought he looked like a defensive midfielder more than a centre back. Left a lot of space in behind as he seemed to want to be more forward. Only one game though so time will tell.

Had to laugh when he misjudged a header and it went sideways and someone shouted that Hughes had signed "George Santos"!

I'm just waiting for the thread about the kit man needing to get his game together.

Mbia looked comfortable on the ball but clearly is no good in the air. Positionally wasn't great TBH.
He played in a defence that conceded 3 and a missed pen, which he gave away.
I think he's better than that, long term.
Give him a chance and let's not crucify him already.
The whole defence was shocking tonight

He IS a defensive MF being asked to play CB. He has said so himself.

well surly the answer is to play him as a defensive midfielder and not as cb! i think he would be good just in front of the back four!

Clearly well short of match practice and match fitness - not to mention making his debut in a position that's not his favourite. Add to that the fact our best defender was rested and 4 other first choice defenders are out injured - all added together makes his debut a baptism of fire. He wasn't great on the night but it was still a better debut than Bob Malcolm's
Would it be too much to hope that he won't get crucified and written off before he gets a proper chance to settle in?

odd one. you can see his power and athleticism which hughes really likes and obviously he isn't going to have a great working relationship with team-mates on his debut but his judgement and positioning seemed v uneven. thank god for clint hill - and i didn't think id be saying that for yet another season...
