  • Neck on the line time: Alarm bells are ringing

We have too many crocks in the 25 man squad and will struggle to play a consistent starting 11 all season

Taarabt is still our most creative player by a country mile

Ji Sung Park is a better centre midfielder than being played out wide, and I would have him in the centre of the park over anyone else... I don't care where he played for Manchester United he appears to have no idea what to do with the ball in wide positions

We are in trouble big time if one more striker gets injured

Diakite is no good at protecting the back four and you will see that when he starts regular

Yet to be fully convinced about Graneo, actually think Park is better in the middle of the pitch and more effective in the engine room

Cisse Great goal tonight but how many times does the man need to get offside during the match

These observations not from one game that since the start of the season

Taking positives from games is not good enough it's the end result which matters. I doubt very much this season will really get going , I think we have enough quality to stay up but we will be in and around the bottom off the leagueall season

There have been definite signs under Hughes that things will head in the right direction but due to some of the reasons stated I think our season will continue to stutter for the duration

Pretty disappointed to go out of the cup , was hoping for a run for a change same old Rangers just with a bigger wage bill. Letting three goals in at home to Reading is simply unacceptable and for me alarm bells are ringing loudly. Regardless of what happens we must stick with the manager he has bought in too much personnel to even consider changing things for the foreseeable future he must be allowed enough time to put things right. We are having some bad luck at present but you have to ask yourself how much of it was avoidable.

I also think Park would be good in the centre, but as we have so many players for that position now, I don't see it happening.

The one good thing about the Rs at the moment in my opinion is the central pairing of Granero/Faurlin

We've lost at home to Swansea in the league, correction, we were trounced in our own back yard by Swansea.
Now we've been knocked out of the league cup at home to Reading.
Those two results should have alarm bells ringing in the boardroom.
We have been outfought, and outplayed, by two teams who should be well below us in terms of quality and class.
I can take a few positives, but it's the many negatives that have me doubting we will have what it takes, to beat a tough, physical side like West Ham.

I think the club had made the decision to opt out of the cup.look at readings second and third goals .at 2-3 down cesar then saves a pen to make it look real.footballs a murky world

I wouldn't change the Faurlin/Granero partnership. Even an idiot must see how good they can play together. I'd drop Park to the bench.

Agree with all of that, except your view that Park is a better option in central midfield than Granero. Granero, for me, is a class act and is playing very well considering the amount of time he's been training with the squad. In truth, I haven't been overly impressed with Park yet but am willing to give him time. Perhaps he is still in the process of settling in.

I wouldn't be too quick to praise the pair of them , they got a lot credit on Sunday for costing us Three points

Most effective centre midfielder I've seen this season's Park, Everybody is talking about what a great midfield partnership Faurlin / Graneo are but so far we've lost three games and drawn one with this midfield combination. I'm not saying this is a poor partnership far from it but it has yet to prove effective and until we start producing results on a consistent basis I don't think anybody can claim how great this partnership is.... This is a results business and the Premier league is very unforgiving

i agree with a lot of it..

with park - i've said both things this season. so unsure where he fits into the team..

which is essentially the problem i think we've got... we've bought players for the sake of buying players because i cant see how our system is going to work.

we're trying to pass the ball into the area rather than create space to shoot. hughes i feel doesnt know his strongest area of the team to build it around.

if it is centre mid with faurlin and granero - you need somebody in there with them to break play up - diakite ideally. we're so open to counter if one of granero / faurlin lose the ball. then you have the argument of playing 451 at home - when we've got the likes of park, hoilett, taarabt.. who imo are game changers if played correctly - which so far only hoilett tonight has been.

if we play cisse lone striker we can't go long to him.. its so clear to see.. we're playing reading tonight - gorkks(good goal btw) is the slowest defender in the league we need to get cisse running off him.. what do we do? long ball, long ball.

end of the day i saw us play 451 a lot last year and we won many games and performed better - so i'd rather we resort to that than the 442/4411 we're trying to play now.

get the ball down the wings and supply crosses - this puts cisse in his element and we have space for midfielders to come into - whilst playing the trio of diakite, faurlin and granero.

rant over - tonight wasn't worse than swansea but it was equally frustrating.. watching a team with so much talented players play so predictably.
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
                      Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

                          Yes, most definitely.
You would have thought, wouldn't you, that after the shameful, embarrassing, gut-wrenchingly disappointing result against Swansea on the opening day, that the next time we saw a side so beneath us in terms of ability, and calibre of player, beat us on our own turf, would have been a little bit longer.
                          No, not with our mob.

Agree W12 about Cisse being offside. Staying onside must be the most basic requirement of a forward. Yes you will get caught now and again but to get tugged for it 6 or 7 times in a game is beyond belief.

I actually think that Granero is the real deal and the partnership with Ali should be something we build our future on. I said this is a previous thread but we need to get Ali or Granero playing 15 yards further forward as for all the great passing we are doing it is basically on the half way line or in front of the oppositions defence.

We need to get them playing the football on the edge of their box slipping in balls as Ali did at Spurs for Zamora then we will become a totally different outfit upfront. The football however pretty it is, is too deep at the current time we need to play further up the pitch
