We have concentrated too much on our attack and midfield in the summer, without putting enough concentration on the defence. Ok, we have injuries, but really we should have got in at least 1 or 2 other defenders earlier. It was apparent to most people that this position was weakest! Doesnt matter how good our attacking play is, because if we can defend - we wont win games

Good post, at last someone else has identified the real problem here. WE CAN'T DEFEND All this waffle about what formations to play in the middle, should this one play or that one are irrelevent if we keep leaking goals

Read my reply to you earlier in this thread- post no9- the gist being that their side was a strong side - hardly 2nd string!

They did have a decent side but our woeful defending cost us. Defend better and we win the game. Simple

Legs, Le Fondre, Gunter, Guthrie, Mcanuff, McCleary & Pearce are all regular starters and were missing/rested last night so that's 7 changes from their team that played WBA at the weekend.

ok fair enough, but their team last night was hardly a bunch of kids and unknowns - it was still a strong side they put out.
              repeat ..hardly their 2nd string!!

No amount of denial can hide what must now be obvious to everyone. Hopefully the board are thinking post Hughes. Otherwise we're fvcked. The form book is there for all to see. It tends not to lie.

edit: Positives taken (sorry I forgot): another match nearer the inevitable.

it was a weakened Reading side and a grain of truth from their fans chant ''how s**t must you be when we win away'' totally depressing performance and a bloody long journey home:angry:
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble

                            Bosingwa, Fabio, Nelsen, M'Bia

+ resigning Dyer, which I reckon counts.

How many more defenders do you think we should have signed? That's five new signings. We're allowed a squad of 25. Should we have signed, say, ten defenders? And put them all in the 25?

This isn't Football Manager - we can't just throw more players at the problem.
