I think the whole country is dying on its ####, within a few years there won't be hardly any pubs, green grocers, bakers ,butchers left. Most of the high streets are dead, so unless you wanna walk around a Westfield or Bluewater with thousands of other loonies you won't have much choice. Sad state of affairs.

Where me nan lives in gerrards cross there's a marks and Spencer's,waitrose, tescos and a sainsburys opening in December! An art shop that's been there 50years is soon to close and at least 8 shops have gone skint in the last year.real shame and corporate greed is to blame.

but....times they are a'changing, if the pubs were popular they would not be closing. People generally do not go to the pub anymore.

Places like Tescos, Lidl etc wouldn't open all these places if people stopped using them.

It's convenient to get all your stuff in one shop with easy parking, despite the fact you can get better and often cheaper from the specialist shops. People forget about these places, and end up being intimidated by them, and then end up thinking they're just for the posh folk, which is entirely at odds with what they are. I wish we had more shops like that nearby, but all we have is fast food places. Which means the local 'shops' are completely dead during the day (and chav & soldier laden in the evening)

Weird thing is, take you local butcher out of his shop, stick him in a Farmers Market and double the prices, and he'll do a roaring trade. Shoppers are very strange creatures.

I'd like to add this...Is it just me that's is appalled by people buying clothes and electrical goods (and even compost ffs) by sticking them on a conveyor belt? *shudders*

Edit : ...or doing a food shop at the f**king garden centre?

Yeah agreed, there's something off putting standing behind a woman at Asda who's putting her oversized knickers on the conveyor belt!

all pubs in grove were like that back in the day-smokey dens of this and that.gutted to hear about the pole. used to drink in there in the late 80's/90's. we would head down on a friday nite from kensal and they would head to the derby on a sat nite before we'd all go up west-often went out and between kensal, latimer, suttons, hillfarm, lancaster west etc to take over clubs. terrible that the pubs of yesteryear are disappearing.

only one left that i know of where you can get some good meat is on harrow road going up towards harlesden.
