There had been rumours for some time that firstly Sainsbury ‘s were interested in the site, but now there are plans to turn the pub into a Tesco Express store. they recently turned the pub at the end of my road into a tescos, I give the locals credit though as on the whole it has been pretty empty and theres posters up encouraging people to boycott it. its a prime example of big business trying to drive smaller shopkeepers out of business, the council are really the ones to blame for granting them permission.

Another pub gone. And now the old Bushranger is now a Costa Coffee. Sad, sad times...

Although the northpole was not an example of this - but there are/were some pubs that were absolute dives.
i get the whole "but it's tradition/character" and small stools, carpet etc...but some feel into decline because the beer price went up (blame brewers/tax man/whoever etc) but the place was still grotty. noone wants to spend £3, £3.50 on a pint in a hole of a pub.
Don't get me wrong, i'm gutted the number of pubs are declining - but lets face it, some of them just had/have to go...or smarten themselves up to continue to attract customers.

I've always said, you can't have too many Tesco shops.

Too few pubs, too many Tesco shops, a sign of the depressing times in which we live.

                          Agreed.

We have bakers nearby but we don't have a butcher in range, or I would be getting meat there as opposed to Waitrose tbf. Local butchers are far more knowledgeable and usually better quality and cheaper too.

pubs are like bakers, cinemas, greengrocers etc. they will all go bust and the only ones standing will be corporates like JJ Moons Greggs Vue and Tesco.
