  • Its all gone quiet SO

    Here is a debate/question

We have one hell of great midfield, which is gelling game by game - In fact we probably looked very sharp against Chelsea, almost enough to say we killed them in that department.

    Anyway..

Remembering Faurlin, Diakite and Granero all play similar roles. Who would it be?! (If ALL our midfielders are fit and on FORM)

For me... This is really hard to call. And I am making a decision based on Diakite offering a little more defensively.

    Hoillet Granero Diakite Park

I would also play Adel behind Cisse...

    Thoughts?

I personally don't think you can leave out Faurlin at the moment, he was outstanding on Saturday and worked brilliantly with Genaro

So for me Faurlin instead of Diakite, and Park on the right/Hoilett on the left, Zamora and Cisse up top

If you saw Faurlin against Chelsea, there is absolutely no way you would drop him.

Granero and Faurlin in the middle for me.

The two of them (faurlin and Granero compliment eachothers game perfectly and as such we should build the team around them. That said there are many options with formations and midfields.

You could play 4231 in which it could be:

        ...................Cesar
        Bosingwa...Mbia....Nelsen...Fabio
        ...........Diakite....Faurlin
        ....Park......Granero.....Hoilett / Taraabt / SWP
        .............Cisse / Zamora

It has gone surprisingly quiet on here, I don't understand that as we are now into an exciting season with another huge match coming up on Sunday! Anyway back to your question, I like the 3 of Park, Faurlin and The Pirate with either Hoilett or SWP completing the 4! I'm sure Diakite will factor in soon as he regains his fitness, it's a long season and players will pick up knocks or will have to be rested! As for Adel, I think he will see some action playing off of the striker or on the flank from the 3 starters I mentioned!

This is a reply for both of you really...

            - I did see Faurlin against the scum and he was exceptional, and was in previous games. Considering his injury etc... superb player and asset.

            However, The point was..

            - IF all players are FIT and in FORM who would you pick. (Not based on whos playing currently, just in general)

if i had to it would be diakite on the bench.. but i'd rather play granero instead of taarabt and have diakite alongside faurlin... that way faurlin sits, diakite can go on a run without leaving a massive hole in the midfield and granero has the quality to keep the ball / delivery quality crosses/setpieces
Soldier: "im on reconnaissance sir.. im looking for our camouflage expert.. have you seen him?"
              Lovejoy: "No?!"
Soldier: "GOD DAMNIT THAT GUYS GOOD!"

I don't think diakite is a similar player at all. He is more of the Viera mould, a big powerful midfielder who hacks down anyone in the middle of the park and makes powerful runs forward. You could play all 3 in a 5 man midfield

In a 4-4-2, Granero and Faurlin without a doubt.
In a 4-5-1, I'd have Faurlin in front of the defence, Diakite and Granero ahead of him, Park and Hoilett/Taarabt on the wings.

I agree that Faurlin can play a bt deeper, giving Diakite and Granero licence to roam and get forward. I really believe a 5 man midfield with the right blend and a striker getting the right support is equally effective as any other formation. The big advantage is you have extra cover defensively, if necessary. Park, Faurlin, Granero and Diakite are must pick players, if fit and in form.

i think with the players we have now then 4-2-3-1 is our best formation. Worked well when we played it in the Championship and especially now that AJ is out for the season.

The way Nelsen and Ferdinand played Saturday it also throws Mbia in to the midfield mix.

I don't believe Diakite is a defensive midfielder, more like a Toure type player; better further upfield, so I'd have Diakite behind Zamora or Cisse.

                            4 in defense (irrelevant); Hoillett--Faurlin--Diakite--Granero--Park
Cisse up front on his own, boss the midfield and supply him with countless chances. Have a feeling zamora well become less effective now aj's out

Tend to agree. And Granero and Faurlin already looks too good to break up. Having said that, I'd like Hughes to give both options a go at some point.

Basically I really, really hope with the options we have Hughes won't be sticking to 4-4-2 come rain or shine.
