  • Sir Les Newcastle's Number 10

Just to lighten the mood little was having a chat recently about how Sir Les acquired the number 10 shirt at Newcastle.

Pretty obvious really Newcastle signed Alan shearer so it was inevitable shearer got the number nine even though Ferdinand worn No. 9 in his first season with Newcastle. What was funny was how Kevin Keegan pulled Sir Les to one side and said something along the lines of "Les , Alan shearer, a Geordie son has just signed for Newcastle, the biggest signing the club has ever made and he says he has to wear the number nine shirt, so are you okay with this? We will let you wear whatever shirt number you want except Alan shearer has to wear the number nine shirt next season."

Sir Les's response went along the lines of... "fair enough I understand situation I will wear the number 69 then season".... with a very serious look on his face. At this point apparently Keegan started backtracking and panicking he proceeded to explain to Sir Les "we can't possibly let you wear the number 69, we understand the situation but it wouldn't be inappropriate for a footballer to wear 69", to which Sir Les gave a horrified Keegan a little wink and says "give me the number 10 shirt then"... and started pissing himself.
