there's a thread on the blue moon forum about sparky and to a man they are less than complimentary, especially his defensive tactics, my big fear is after the drubbings at foolham and chelski we dont seem to have learned from our mistakes (swansea)

I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble

I agree we should not be in the relegation dog fight with the players we got.

it now down to Hughes to start picking the right players and tactics.

I have complete faith in Mark Hughes, we all know his teams take time and to be fair, we need to give the players time to gel. We are playing in the EPL and it's not so easy to gel overnight, I feel by the end of October we'll be picking up wins.

I would like Mark as manager long term and to make it his own. I feel he is the right man and a manager who can attract some world class players.

This is his chance to prove everyone wrong and hope he does just that.

The fans also need to play a part in this and show patience. More easier said than done.

That´s the real problem. People seems ready to slate the manager way too early. We have to realize that a top ten position seems far out of reach.
other teams have strengthen their squads more than we thought they would, myself included. In fact, I cant see any clear relegation favorites now.

If we've not added 3 points to our one point tally after the West Ham game then Hughes is going to be under pressure. He's been given the tools by the board, now he's got no excuses, it's his team. I'm all for giving the manager time, but expectations have gone up now due to the quality of players we've signed. Personally i'd be content with a 17th place finish, but I bet Tony wouldn't, which I'd understand.

We shouldnt be finishing 17th no way. Not with the additions we've made. Beard & the board are 100% right to say we shouldnt be in a relegation scrap, theyve backed Hughes to the hilt, walked the walk and put the money where their mouth is - now its time for the team to return the favor and deliver on the pitch.
It will take abit of time and if we are on 1 point afer 5 games, alothough far from ideal, I wont be too down beat - so long as we pick up 3 pts vs Wet Spam and pick up abit of form.

My concern is we haven't spent "big" to make a relegation fight a no go zone.

Not like we have gone out and purchased 4 or 5 players on top quality players in the 10 to 15 million pound zone plus the odd 20 million signing and frees on the level of say Carroll or berbatov. If that was the case then I agree relegation zone isn't an option but many of these types of remarks coming from the club seem to be made to protect the person who said its own position rather than a genuine statement of intent. MH said it at the end of last season to put distance between himself and the shambles of surviving on the last day so his position was safe. Beard has said it now to divert any potential criticism of him in relation to our transfer policy. I though the point of Beard and MH was that they had transfer targets in sight and had contacts, to me the transfers to date haven't been very targetted but random.

I have no doubt that unless we see a marked improvement in results over the next three games then we are in for a relegation fight that will be tougher than last year. Hopefully it will come together

IMO - no team with Cesar, Bosingwa, Mbia, Park, Hoilet, Granero, Faurlin, Diakite, Tarbs, Zamora & Cisse in should be in a relegation scrap. Far from it.

I support the club 100% whatever the position we are in. I support all the players no matter how poor they have played.

                            HOWEVER, I am also realistic.

                            - We shouldnt be fighting against relegation this season (1. Because we SHOULD improve 2. We have a squad worthy of good and better things now 3. We invested heavily)
                            - Setting targets is always going to happen
                            - We must improve on our last season
                            - We must fix our faults

Players on big money have to expect pressure of this kind..

                                Relegation is not an option.

Expectations have quite rightly gone up.......It is now down to Mark Hughes to put the right players out in the right formation depending on who we are up against....

                                Doesn't that sound simple?
