How's that Rsonist? It's quite a fair comment after the amount that has been spent this summer I thought.

It is a fair comment but (as far as I've noticed) up til now the board have been sticking to the sober party line that staying in the division is the only goal this season. Puts a tiny bit more pressure on than there was before IMO.

On one hand it's good to be ambitious and demanding but on the other it shouldn't at all be underestimated how long it might take for the squad to gel.

Yeah sorry I had just thought about what I said and was going to come back and add to my post. I haven't heard any comment about just staying in the Prem this season which is what I should've said.
I personally if given a 17th place finish right now would take it, simply because of the new deal kicking in.But yes agree that does seem like a "friendly" shot across the the bow of hms Sparkey I must admit

Well, it was Sparky himself who said we wouldn't be the same position this season as last, so I don't think it's Phil Beard who is putting the pressure on.

Problem is spending money doesn't guarantee survival. Nor does talent of individual players. How often have we heard the phrase "too good to go down"? Not for a minute saying we will go down but a tiny bit naive imo if anyone thinks its impossible.

                    No pressure at all..

The point is, we shouldnt be fighting for survival this season. The league is very tight and therefore it will be hard regardless. But we should be aiming for top ten realistically..

Clear message to Hughes and the team to get their act together, no matter what team we are playing, we must start accumulating points.

but take a look at my photo blog:

That's only because the team will take time to gel, otherwise we'd have no problems.

Which was basically why I said the other day that a 'writing off points' metality was unacceptable, whether it manifests on here or at the club. The very fact that the word relegation is creeping into official statements is an indication that there will be a limit to the amount of failiure that the board will put up with. 100% correct.

In the EPL you don't have the luxury of games to gel. That is why business was supposed to have been done early. Gelling is for pre season. This is the real thing, and we need a grip on that fast.

I have been disappointed with the performances so far, especially having seen the performances of Southampton against the Manc duo Reading v Sc*m, even the Turnip Taliban apparently put in a good display against us and Spurs. But having said that I have put that down to not gelling.
