  • Cisse

I thought Johnson and Zamora did well together yesterday, but I dont understand why Cisse didnt start. We are in a fortunate position now to rotate the side a bit, but surely Cisse is our most natural goalscorer as he showed in pre season and most of his games for us last year. Even when we are not playing well, you always feel there is a chance of scoring when hes on the field. I thought yesterday was poor for first 20 mins, but then much much better the rest of the game, but City understandably were just too good. They are the Champions, and have spent multi millions over recent years. But with the way we played the second half, I couldnt help but think that if Cisse was on the field, we could have nicked a draw at very least! Seems a bit of a waste to have him on the bench, especially until the last 10 mins.

I think your find AJ started becuase he is better at closing down, harassing and making the defenders life a little more uncomfortable when they have the ball passing it along the back. Cisse is our best striker of the ball but doing what AJ did against MC is not his strenght.

I would expect Cisse to be first choice against other teams that are not of MC quality, IMO this was a tactical reason to try and be more solid.

For sure this was the reason, I also think it worked out well. Cissé is a better sniper but he doesn't work half as hard defensively as AJ.

Cisse is a far better player than AJ. I would have had him in too.

People constantly say that a player was picked for tracking back etc. If that's all there is to the game we could just get a load of fit, fast runners in the team. Quality is essential too and we leave it on the bench.

Cisse is one of our best players, by a long way.

And the tactics didn't get us a point.

AJ needed to be on to close down their defenders. And although Zamora tapped the ball home it was in all other respects AJ's goal through his pressuring their defenders. Agree tho I wd have liked to see Cisse on ten minutes earlier. Football is full of "what ifs" but if either of those chances late on had fallen to Cisse there is not much doubt what he wd have done with them imo. but that said we might have then been more exposed at the back and let another one in, so who knows?

cisse is our best finisher - but that is all he is. we saw against swansea he cant play in lone role.

AJ and zamora have an understanding - and aj works harder. we need grafters against teams like city. we're not going to be in possession of the ball that long to create a chance for cisse.

It would be interesting to see Cisse & Johnson up front together.

not away from home it wouldn't. where would be your "out" ball when its like the alamo on your six yard line and you need a big man to boot it up to. its why the likes of carroll and crouch will always have their uses for teams outside the very elite of the game and should not be under-valued.

Bobby creates chances for others, holds up the ball, creates space for forward runs by occupying the centre backs, links up passages of play and scores the odd goal.

That's what I see when I watch him play. What do others see? It seems some people only see the ball hit the back of the net, and not the many things it takes to make that happen.

No room in the side for passengers when you're playing the top boys away. Everyone needs to put in a shift. I think Hughes picked the right team.
