  • On Granero

Michael Cox, the guy that runs the Zonal Marking website, did an article on us signing Granero. Good write up, but slightly worrying as it indicates he's not the most creative of players. I thought his passing today was terrific but read more here.

Only based on two games mind, but would seem Granero might work better in a 3 man midfield. Certainly doesn't look like he's a replacement for Tarbs.

He will come good only with good managment.

Did not understand why replace him with Cessi. Cessi would have benefect with Granero on the pitch with his passing. Anyway thought he had a good game considering its his first and against the champs. I thought his off ball running and positional sense was great.

Did anyone think he was a replacement for Taraabt. I looked on him as a central midfielder and i think he will end up being first choice there this season alongside diakite or in a 3 man with faurlin and diakite
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks

Looked great considering he's barely been with the group a day, most of which was travelling. To then be thrown into the hardest fixture of the season and do so well is very impressive.

Was following the match thread on the f365 forum, and Granero got positive comments from all fans, as did Park, and our general second half display.

              Very impressive debut IMO

I thought Granero's corner kicks were very good.

Consistently found the back post - a massive improvement on Taarabt who rarely beats the first man.

I have to agree with that, I have always wanted Taarabt to be on the edge of the box for corners, not taking them, as he takes too many poor ones, and also, when the ball comes out, he would be a lot more effective on the edge of the area as he could use creativity to cause danger.

We have had a long line of shite corner takers over the years. Buz was the best recently, and he took a lot of shockers too.

Hope Granero can give us a bit of quality here. The free kick that Nelsen just missed was a superb ball in.

Adel takes all the set peices in the the opposistion half, as he is was the best set peice player at the club. From what I saw yesterday Granero was far better at these and would have taken this role from Adel so yes in that sense i can see where he would have taken his place.

I thought Granero and Faurlin (even though not fully fit) towards the end of the first half and the whole of the second was the best i had seen it this year. The fact that we just didnt keep trying silly passes that werent on, and kept posession. When Samba comes back sitting behind these two that to me imo is our best Midfeild.

Fir Adel / Holliet to me they are playing for SWP starting place or as sub and come on as required. Adel still is my Fav player, but with the addtional quality we have brought in and Faurlin getting fit it is going to get harder for him to start every game. When he does start he needs to take the oppertunities with both hands and make it impossible for Hughes to drop him and i am afraid even though he is my favourite player did not done that against Swansea (even though his wasnt the worse player and did track back).

Every game against each opposistion will bring different tactics so he will get his chance, but from what i saw the Garnero / Faurlin partnership is the one i would go with in Midfeild.

Granero is being treated like a great player after a normal performance. When he doesn't live up to greatness, the same people will probably shoot him down as rubbish, overrated etc.

That's the way fans are ... one minute you're the best, and the next minute you're not worthy of the shirt. We've seen this with Adel.

How about being realistic for once? How about saying "Granero looks like a good player", so that when he doesn't end up being "great" but is "good", we won't need to start saying he failed to live up to expectations?

Not seeing anything other than that really. Most of the 'great' descriptions are qualified in terms of it being his debut, and his first Prem game to boot.

Like I've said in other places, I thought Granero made a good start yesterday. But if you click on the link, it shows that his passing in a game is usually to keep possession and that he rarely creates chances for the team.

This is what the purpose of the thread was supposed to be. Not about his debut yesterday, as that has been covered but on the fact he is not perhaps the creative dynamo we expected him to be? Of course, his passing ability is fantastic, and I'm really unsure why he did not create more chances at Madrid. And was hoping for some discussion that maybe disproved what the article had to say.

will, this was interesting on that subject. about halfway down the article a spanish observer gives his view on graneros position. in short he says spanish sides play...no5 sweeping and breaking play...no6 setting up the playmaker...no8 the pay maker...
this guy says granero is the playmaker but was used as the no6, this would explain his statistics.
