  • Up to Hughes now?

Pressure now on him to perform, board has backed him to the hilt now it's all about results.no excuses,no Relagation battle this season, unthinkable with the squad we now have.

We're going to take time to play as a team, we will struggle for another couple of months I think. Especially away from home. Need to make Loftus Road our fortress again.

One thing is for sure, teams are going to want to beat us and fans will give us a very hostile reception.

Hopefully fans don't expect instant results!!

The worst thing that can happen is booing the team or management! This squad WILL come good, just needs time. Anyway, Hughes won't get the sack because Tony and Amit will have to splash the cash in the transfer market again haha.

Rebel R's, I'm sure you agree that this virtually new squad are going to need time to settle. With that in mind how much time are you prepared to give Hughes?

Hughes has never been a fan of balls out, attacking football. He's a pragmatist. I think we'll see a lot of playing for the draw.

I'd agree with that. I think tactically he is a long way from sharp. I'd really like to see us more 4/2/3/1 because I don't think we're all that up front and the threat needs to come from mid park going forward. And its arguably the most flexible shape, which is useful when people are learning to play together. It wont happen though. It's now clear 4-4-2 only really works if you have specialist position players pretty much 1-11, and good ones at that, otherwise you get over run at this level.

But I also think we have to give him time (take 2) since yet again we're starting pretty much from scratch.

THAT'S analysis! I suspect success is going to rely on our midfielders being utilised effectively. Hopefully Hughes sees that & will work out a shape to get the best out of each of them. God knows what that is though. He has a challenges on his hands.

4 2 3 1 was what we won the championship with!

I'm a Hughes fan so think he should be given till January at least,if in bottom 3 by 1st of January I would expect Fernandes to act,BUT I fully expect this NOT to be the case .With this squad we should be finishing mid table

I would not "expect TF to act" if we are in the bottom 3 by Jan 1st - Hughes has to be given a full season at the very least. You can't keep changing the manager - the club needs stability. Fortunately Fernandes seems to realise that too.

Where I agree with Stanley is this club is crying out for stability. Sack Hughes in Jan, bring in Harry and he will want another half a dozen signings at least who will take time to bed in and so the circus wd be repeated all over again. For better or worse we made our choice with Hughes and with the massive, massive changes we have made (almost unprecedented I wd have thought, maybe the Man City and Chelsea revolutions aside) it is going to take time to gel.

Where I think Rebel has a point is that pressure will undoubtedly grow if results are poor. Bookies are not stupid and they are already offering bets on him getting the sack. Pressure is not always based on sound logic. If we were bottom three by Christmas other teams, the media and then our own fans wd start to say "you have spent all this money, and look where you are in the league." The sponsors wd complain and Tony wd be bricking it about his investment. There was no logic in Wolves sacking McCarthy, but they still did it. Hughes is playing for high stakes and in football the one commidity no one can afford much of is time. As long as Hughes still had the dressing room and we were not looking shambolic or tactically inept and we were bottom three I wd still stick with Hughes for the reasons Stanley gave - but I wdn't necessarily bet on the board doing the same.
