  • Hughes on Nelsen - "One of the best professionals I've ever been involved with”

“I think you saw why I brought Ryan to the club. He was excellent and it was a really good, powerful performance. I know what I get from Ryan. I've worked with him very closely for a number of years, not just in terms of ability but his mentality and the way he goes about his business on a daily level. He's one of the best professionals I've ever been involved with.”

The former Blackburn Rovers centre-back made his first appearance for the R's in last night's League Cup win against Walsall, putting in an assured display in the heart of defence.

Seems very very highly thought of in the game. Remember a similar comment from ol' saggy face.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

I think maybe Nelsen wasn't quite match fit after the Olympics. It will be interesting to see if he starts on Saturday

Good point. I think he deserves a shot after his performance on Tuesday.

I think at his age he needed a break and after joing us from the Olympics Hughes has tried to ease him in gentley, and dont expect him to play every game.

Expect him to start if not on Sunday but very soon as since Hill got dropped midweek we kept a clean sheet, i know it was against a lower league club but from what i have seen this season it was still an acheivement.

I don't think it was so much he needed a rest after the olympics, given he hardly played last season, but more he may have not been 100% sharp and as he joined the squad late because of the olympics, he needed some time to get in the mix.

He should do the HAKA to the player he's marking before corners to really freak them out....

IMO it was his ommision thet started the end for Blackburn... Wasnt he not played again becasue it would trigger an appearance clause that would mean they had to pay his previous club more money so the Venkys blocked Kean selecting him. I think they went downhill from there and it ultimately helped make Sambas mind up also.

I thought he looked decent but it is so glaringly obvious that we don't have a commanding centre back in the air. Nobody won headers and headed it miles upfield like your best centre backs do. We need one of those.
