  • They have never heard of Queens Park Rangers in Brazil... until now

Few Brazilian football fans have ever heard of QPR — but they will now.

Julio Cesar is a real transfer coup, he was voted the world’s best keeper in 2010!
He may have lost his place with the national side but the move has still stunned many Brazilians, who had expected him to sign for one of Europe’s bigger names.

You can only applaud QPR for their audacity and ambition and admire the Barclays Premier League for once again attracting the finest players in the world to England.

Cesar, it seems, is still paying for the mistake he made against Holland in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup.
Despite this, he remains a huge superstar in Brazil, where his keeping abilities, as well as his leadership, are appreciated. His fame went stratospheric after he married model and actress Susana Werner — a former girlfriend of Brazil legend Ronaldo. They have two children, Cauet, 10, and Giulia, seven.

Cesar’s successes include a Champions League winner’s medal and five league titles in Italy’s Serie A.

But he may now be in for one of the greatest challenges of his career — trying to keep QPR in the Premier League. With only two games played, it’s far too early to predict what’s in store for Mark Hughes’s side.

But QPR fans will be glad to know that if a battle for survival is on the cards, Cesar came through two testing periods at Brazilian giants Flamengo in 2001 and 2004 when the club almost crashed into the Brazilian second division.

Cesar has stated time and again that his burning ambition is to get back in the Brazil side for the 2014 World Cup in his home country.
The move to QPR has been widely — though incorrectly — perceived in Brazil as a backward step and the death knell for his international career. Cesar is hell-bent on proving them wrong.

It is a suprise - no one could have predicted this one. I doubt Rob Green saw it coming....a bit like crosses.

The question is, as we are bringing in a world-class shot stopper - why we signed Green in the first place? He is clearly the second choice behind Cesar if he signs and it's been discussed about the sign-on bonus and the agent fee in the Green signing. Why spend the money speculated on a reserve goalie?

W12 - I think it is a great point. Green will be dissolusioned and we are paying him over 40k a week according to the media. QPR should not be paying a 2nd choice keeper that money.

Unless MH has decided he made a mistake alrady. If that's the case TF should be fuming with him???

Says who, you? TF is the owner and wouldnt allow Sparkie to sign Cesar if he didnt think he should be paying a 2nd keeper that. Hughes has always said he wants 2 good keepers, no problem with it at all n my eyes, he's building a squad.

i read that kenny was always meant to stay - and he and green would fight for the number 1 shirt.
well, didn't quite go to plan - paddy went to join with his best mate Diouf and Green decided to continue being himself. at this point MH has probably put some feelers out for a new keeper and come up trumps with this one. we've got some big players at our club now and this has probably push cesar into thinking we're a club on the up - which we are.

it will take a couple of seasons, but MH is known across the footballing world and so probably has good contacts. better than NW in any case.

Agreed, it won't help his confidence, thats for sure.

Since when is Cerny a poor second-choice?

You make a good point Matty, but isn't it strange to pay big fees/wages for a keeper who will be warming the bench? Yeah, we don't know how big those fees were and we don't know what wages he's on but what we know for sure is that they were enough to convince him from signing a contract extension for a club of which he had spent 6 years and just won promotion with.

Being the Malaga of the prem ISN'T a good thing . . . . . Their mega rich Qatari owner has lost interest and the players haven't been paid for months, I posted a link in a previous post !
"Steve, do you think 25k is a good option when there are indications that within four years, new stadiums on average have increased attendances of 60%?
For us that would mean around 29k."

Agree, but we're not though - we have a lower wage bill than last year, a net spend of £1.5mill and are developing the whole infrastructure of the club. We dont have some crazy rich owner strolling in splashing mega dough and using us as his real life game of Football Manager whilst he is bored - although the media would have you believe otherwise.
