Do you want us to sign somebody who turns out to be useless for 4 or 5 years?

2 year 5 year dont really matter, its a short term fix and a good one but long term we will need to buy every windown till 2015 to replace the squad.

It was clear last season that we needed experience and calm heads - lets wait for all of our transfer dealings before we pass judgement - fabio, diakite, hoilett, bosingwa are all under 30

but they are nearly all on free transfers. Why is that abysmal?

i aint worried about us were be fine, but im saying why do we always look for the quick fix? whats wrong with buying players with there best years ahead of them for a change.
worst case scenario is they dont do it, atleast you could sell them on. with the dads army at the moment if they dont do it thats it were stuck just paying em wedge with no chance of another club wanting to take them on.

The TV deal nearly doubles next season so it is imperative that we don't get relegated this season. To try and make sure that doesn't happen they proably want some been there done it type prem players regardelss if they only have a year or 2 left in them.... For the TV security it is very much a this season is a must short term fix. I think the bottom team next season will bank nearly £60m....

That said, we have young players also, and a good mix is essential.

Absolutely. I reckon the Green/Cesar business was down to this. Fernandes woke up in a cold sweat & realised the only thing standing between him & a loss of millions was Rob Green.

Think you are right about the thinking Del - but where I suspect Tony is in for a nasty shock is when he says words to the effect of "after this transfer this will be us more or less done for the next year or two". He doesn't realise that Sparky is primarily thinking about this season - come next summer he will be knocking on Tony's door saying "AJ, Nelsen, Green etc are past it, Onouha's not up to it" etc etc and before you know it he will be looking for half a dozen more - and this time it won't be players you can buy in the supermarket "value range"...
