  • The 44 Games to Go..Match report

We've drawn two games that we should have won, but today in the second half we did not play particular well, though yet again Cerny has no real save to make, yet we come home with 1 point.

First of all the positives, Routledge and Hall. The former was simply outstanding today and run riot against The Plymouth left back and was at the forfront of interlinking play between the front pair and winning free kicks. Hall, had his critics in the past, but even though he misplaced one or two passes, but his tackling was first class and tracked back a couple of times near the end to prevent Plymouth strikers going one on one. Gorkss had Fallon in his pocket all day long, but he was a nuisance and was a danger to us all game.

The first half, we played well and created a few chances, one a great shot from Routledge on the volley outside the area, which was palmed away and Tarrabt came close after a great one two with Routledge. The balance of play was definitely in our favour and Plymouth had no chances of note. Our passing at times reminded me of the De canio days, but it was the final ball missing as opposed to the finishing. We were just about going down for pies and beers at half time, when a great cut in by Tarrabt, where he beat 2 players, cracked in a shot, it deflected onto helgusson's head and he put it away with ease.

Love to be a fly on the wall in the dressing room at half-time, as it was Plymouth out of the blocks first and they kept pressing. For some reason, Tarrabt was switched out left and Buzsacky into the middle and Helguson was being used as a target man. Tactically, you have to say Magilton got it wrong in the second half, though we had one oppotunity of note, from a shot from Tarrabt who hit the side netting, it was all Plymouth and we simply allowed them back into the game. We were passing the ball well, but it kept breaking up in midfield. We have been playing the ball from the back and the introduction of Ageymang for Helguson, indicated we would do the same, but we suddenly saw Cerny kicking the ball up in the air. If, we had planned to play this way, it may have been better to have Pellicori up front whose strength is hold up the ball, as Ageymang is pacey, but has no ability to head the ball and was constantly being beaten by the defender. We were simply giving the ball away too much. The defence was coping well, though Fallon missed a sitter around 70 minutes.

The critical moment of this game came without doubt around the 85th minutes, Vine wins the ball on the half-way line, chips the ball over the defender and beats him for pace, he runs about 30 yards, and with two defenders gettingto him and keeper coming out, he tries to side foot into the corner, but the keeper makes a very good save. A missed opportunity created by a great piece of inventiveness from Vine, but a chance he should have put away.

The 5 minute sign comes up, we win a corner. Instead, of just holding the ball, Routledge goes for a one two with Ramage, but that results in a catch for the keeper. Sturrock had put on extra forward, who was another 6ft 5inch striker, and they then pressed forward. It results in Gorkss knocking one off the line. The resulting corner everyone piles in and it deflects of Gorkss for the equaliser.

We have to learn to win ugly and hold onto 1-0 leads and I would have liked to see Cerny come and command his box in injury time, by punching or catching the corner or some of the defenders not panic. I am left a little confused why the tactical changes at half time, by changing players positions and not putting on Pellicori, when we needed to hold the ball up front. All in all, it was disappointing end as we had played well, but its a long long season and we will play worse and win games.

      It is.

Last season we started with a win against Barnsley and got stuffed at Sheffield United. 3 Points from 2 games, this season we have two. By mid September we were 4th in the league.

If, I came on here and said Swansea were going to get relegated because they have lost 2 games, I would be told I was being stupid. Quite rightly so.

We are playing attractive football, should have won. Have to learn from this game and try and beat Bristol City. We've not even ended August and many are writing off the season already, it ends in May.

so what if we get no result against bristol....2 from 3...yep definate move forward.....scott gave it large earlier that we were better...but we are a point down from last season....and against relegation favourites....so what happens when the big boys come knocking.
Couldn't careless about attractive football....we need to win games and get going instead of setting ourselves the hard task of playing catch up.
As for the sarcasm....thought it was all about opinions......

It is all about opinions, but you think we will finish the season in the bottom six, not sure how you come to that conclusion.

We played better today and against Blackpool, then we did against Exeter yet we score 5. Goals will come, its just a matter of patience. I'm gutted we drew, but I'd rather make judgements after 10 games, not 2.

there you go again jumping the gun....we didn't score last season....so how is it based on 2 games....don't try and think i am complete pr@t and just go by 2 games.......i am going by something that has been said for over a season now....nothing has changed up front in the slightest....oh apart from a midfielder pretending to be a forward.
And don't for a minute think we cannot finish bottom 6 , i remember newcastle being to good to go down.
2 points.....against bottom half teams also gives me an indication that we are only good on paper......

I understand your concern and thought exactly the same driving home from Plymouth today (Plymouth & Blackpool are both going to finish in the bottom 8) but if supporting QPR for 30 odd years as taught me anything, it's that we beat good teams and play crap against poor teams. Bring on Newcastle, Sheff U, Boro, Cardiff, WBA etc

we wont go down but so many people have been asking for a proven goalscorer for... how many seasons is it now..?
there must be something in it.
we also sold our top scorer for multiple seasons, and spent the money on another midfielder.

No open chances were missed today apart the one from Vine, which many other strikers may not have even created for themselves in the first place

Helguson puts his chance away, cannot fault strikers today as our shots were from outside the box and the final ball was missing.

The two good saves from the keeper, were made from Routledge and Buzsacky from outside the penalty area and one half chance from Tarrabt.

30+ years here as well mate....but in other years we have always at some point found a goalscorer.....not for a couple of seasons have we done that now.....the board are too tight in my opinion....you have to speculate to accumulate.......or in other words you don't buy a ticket you cannot win the raffle.

You cannot guarantee a striker will score 20 goals for us, just as likely to come from Helguson or tarrabt.

Our midfield will score plenty of goals too, just ask Routledge.

No need to panic, just yet.

who said anyone was in a panic...some of us are realistic.....you just spin things to make yourself feel better.

Routledge scored against lower league the same as ledesma last season.......so pointless using him as an example.....hh needs too many chances and tarrabt...well you know my feelings about him.
