  • Open Day today.........my thoughts

Popped down there today. Good for the kids and most of the players signed autographs for them. Loads of Koreans there all with shirts for Park.

    But from a footballing perspective:

    1. Thing that really stood out for me was the lack of noise. When I'm playing with my side or when we're at training everyone is barking out orders with lots of encouraging. This session was so quiet. Real distinct lack of 'leaders' for me from the session.

    2. Shooting was very hit and miss.

    3. Passing looked good.

    4. Green did not fill me with confidence once again.

    5. At the very end Mackie was the first to go in and he was having a right strop with one of the coaching staff by the dug outs. Not sure what it was about. He was effing and blinding waving his arms about. Something happened in the session which had obviously pissed him off. Have no idea why.

    6. In the team photo there was no Barton, Bothroyd, Smith, Connolly or Young.

    7. Hughes spent virtually the whole session doing kick ups which was rather bizarre.

    8. Eddie Niezweckzcki and Mark Bowen did the drills during the session.

    9. They did not practise any corners.

    10. Team is crying out for some leaders

Tbf regards point 7, this is the way it is at most clubs, gaffer over sees whilst coaches, well, coach. The fact Hughes can do a few kick ups whilst he observes is a mere bonus in my eyes
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Regards point 1 - you're amateur, they are pro's.....they've no need to shout around and be seen to be the loudest.
did you find out why there wasnt a promo bus parade?

naaa franky, cisse was just peed off because he had no service during the whole match. instead of tarrabt creating for cisse, he was taking 30 yard shots instead. as for mackie, he kept drifting inside and taking cisse's space.

nothing to worry about franky, happens all the time with players

we need a Terry style CB.He may be a cant, but he has presence on the pitch.A leader and sad to say decent player.Who can we get like him?Fenwick was last proper leader at back for me.

Yep. Somebody like Ryan Shawcross, brute of CB would love him at Rangers.

Shawcross would be excellent and would add some steel and leadership to the side.

All level of football has leaders in a side. You need people to organise the side. This side on evidence so far is clearly lacking in that.

As for the bus parade........Fernandez and Beard were not at the club at the time : )

Nelsen is knocking on a bit but from what I saw of him at Blackburn was a great organiser and captain for them so why not give him a go and maybe get in a quick CB to go with him. Ferdinand always seems to lose concentration so am concerned by him and maybe he is a major problem for us in that the others may look at him as the leader, Hill did great at the end of last season but looked shot on Saturday and Onuaha looked short of confidence.

i was thinknig bout coming to this - then the england test went to 5 days so when along to lords.
thanks for the points hammersmith - was interested in how this went as i def would have gone.

but i do think this was never gonig to b a "real" training session - just more a bit of a warm up, some drills and that's it. no prem team is going to have an open day to come in and see what we're really training on, otherwise we'd have had half the norwich squad down watching too!

...then again, i think our tactics are pretty black and white for next saturday...don't play like we did against swans.

I like the way we pass the ball around now, it is much faster and there's a lot of one-touch football.
"When you went to the corner and saw our fans celebrating the way they were you just wanted to be part of it" - Shaun Derry after we beat the scum 1-0
