Not nervous mate, keeping me feet on the ground (remember last season v Bolton, and this is QPR afterall) so not getting carried away. We have a better team/squad than last year and we picked up some great results.

I remember about this time last season, being full of optimism and excitement about the potential for a good start.

Last year was blind optimism, whereas this year we have so many good players it is justified optimism.

Warming up with Leeds and Wolves on telly. Will have to record the game. But hopefully we will get a narrow win today. Keep the faith.

I'm sorry to say I'm not excited in the least.

A mixture of Chelski winning the CL which pissed me off hugely, and the Olympics, which reminded me of what sport should really be about.

I just think football is increasingly corrupt and bogus, and populated by irrational and unreasonable people.

Of course I hope QPR do well, and I will be watching on the internet this afternoon. But I just can't get too excited about it.

                I hope I'll perk up a bit.

Relax, and try not to be influenced by the anti-football media ******** that's whipped up now.

A couple of lung-bursting 'COME ON YOU R's' and all will be well again.

Has he? What have all the others said? Or are you sticking loyally to the guy who has said something that reinforces your prejudice?

But I'll look into it. Do you have a link for the research, or even the official who made this claim? I can find nothing with a google search. Thanks.

What proportion of athletes who are tested fail drugs tests? What proportion of footballers who are tested fail drugs tests? I don't know the answer to either. I know that there is corruption in all sports.

But anyway, it's not so much the bribery-of-officials sort of corruption I was meaning. I meant a deeper malaise, and a deeper cynicism noticeable in football. If you like, a sort of moral corruption. I just loved the relative simplicity and innocence of the Olympics. People quietly slogging away, 6 days a week before work or school, training, improving, dreaming, without making a fuss. It enriched my spirit and replenished my faith in the value of sport as a benefit to humanity.

This is a totally personal thing, so I don't think it's worth arguing about. I respect the views of others even we disagree. We had different experiences during the Olympics, and that was mine.

Back on topic, good for all of you who are looking forward to the season more than me. I envy you, and I suspect that a few games in I'll be addicted once again.
