  • Hughes tells Barton some home truths

Mark Hughes has given Joey Barton a choice – the disgraced midfielder either goes out on loan or he trains with the QPR kids.

His manager reckons French giants Marseille is Barton’s best bet – or the man facing a 12-match ban following incredible scenes at Manchester City on the last day of the season trains in exile with academy prospects.

Hughes also indicated there was no way back for a player who has burned all his bridges at Rangers.

“He’s got a three-year contract, but as I explained to Joey, he wasn’t going to be in my 25 and he needed to look at his options. He could come back here and train with the FDS (development squad) – but he wouldn’t be training with the full squad. There have been other options, but he didn’t think they were right, but this one makes sense for him and certainly for us,” said Hughes.

However, the Rs manager pointed out he was still awaiting a concrete approach from l’OM despite media speculation.

“I’ve seen the speculation, but although there has been interest, there has been no direct communication as regards a player swap with Marseille,” the manager added.

Cheers matey. Can't wait for this season to start. Brother in law has season ticket for the scum so might be a bit of money on it this season.

Right move from Hughes. Love to move him on permanently to free up the wage bill, but can't see us finding a club daft enough. Looks like we're going to have to suck it up and send him on loan while heavily subsiding his wages.

I think he might end up at West Ham at some point. Allardyce took him from Man City to Newcastle and knows him well.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

The only way I can see him having a future at Qpr if we have a bad season and get desperate.

I really wanted Joey to do well for Qpr last season but he's let himself down too many time by under-performing, getting sent off twice, upsetting one or two players, got caught up in a fight outside liverpoo nightclub and far too obsessed with his twitter which keep getting himself in the media for all the wrong reason.

I can only think of 3 or 4 games he's done well for Qpr, I just cant warm to him and it would not bother me if he doesn't play for Qpr again.

I reckon there are still plenty of managers who will show interest, Warnock for instance
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble
Into the arms I love the most

We won't get that desperate, not with our improved squad.
Banning people is no longer my hobby,
but take a look at my photo blog:

was obvious he had no future with us long before this. as for other clubs, sure they will want him. the question is will it be a prem club - if not we will be left to pick up the thick end of 70,000 a week in wages for several years to come because there is no way they will be able to afford that kind of money.

Three year contract or is it three years left on his contract ?
