  • Reminder of tomorrow's tributes for Big Mac

    QPR WEBSITE

R'S LEGEND Alan McDonald will be remembered prior to kick-off against Swansea City tomorrow (Saturday) with a minute's applause.

‘Macca’ – as he was affectionately known – tragically passed away earlier this summer after collapsing while playing golf in his native Northern Ireland.

Following discussions with the McDonald family, it has been agreed that a period of applause would be suitable as we look to remember his life with great fondness.

McDonald family would also encourage QPR fans to join in a spontaneous round of applause in the fifth minute of our clash against the Swans.

At the request of the family, there will be no wreaths laid prior to kick-off.

Instead, the McDonald family would welcome donations to the Alan McDonald Trust. Cheques or cash will be accepted at the Loftus Road reception.

Finally, the Alan McDonald Book of Condolence will close at 5.00pm today. Supporters wishing to leave a message for Macca should do so between now and then at the club’s main reception on South Africa Road.

Supporters will, however, still be able to e-mail their tributes - tributes@qpr.co.uk - and they will be forwarded on to the family.

This is the tribute I sent to his family:

The word 'legend' is bandied around all too easily these days, but it perfectly fits Macca. I saw him play for QPR untold times and he always put in 100% every time. A pleasure to watch and I loved watching him get stuck in every game, a fearless and fearful player. If ever there was a 'Mr QPR' it was Macca.*

The best defender we've ever had at our club, he was not only a great player but always had time for the fans. In this day of the superstar footballer, Macca was a star in his day but also a man of the people. He will always be remembered as a great player, a great captain, and a great man.*

    RIP Macca.*
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.
