Having it bother you is fine (in all honesty when I read certain posts I notice the incorrect words also - I am a nerd like that), but IMHO, going out of the way to make a snidey comment flagging it up, really is about as petulant as it gets and gives the impression, to me anyway, the poster is trying to belittle the person who may have used the incorrect grammar.
Have to agree with you on that matty, especially the point about flagging it up.

But each to their own. If people are happy to display their lack of English comprehension on a public forum, that's up to them.

                    Classic!

It's not "but" but 'but'. It's single speech marks in England and double in American English

                      Anyway, back to Hughes...

                        Not true:

Beginning a sentence with a conjunction can also be a useful way of conveying surprise:
                        *
                        And are you really going?
                        But didn’t she tell you?
                        Source?

as narrative, starting a sentence with 'but' is fine. not for standard grammar though
