  • does anybody remember the 68 -69 season

it was a hell of an experience,we got well and trully stuffed

lining up with hazell and watson in the middle of the defence we had the worst two center halfs in the division

we got rattled so many times

if only rodney marsh wasnt injured we may have done so much better

certainly in barry bridges we had a striker who could finish, but we got torn to peices

that first game of the season les allen came of the subs bench to score to make it a draw, and as we
went home aftyer the match we had no idea that we nhad just played the other team that were going to drop,so we thought we jhad played well, but ..............in fact we were gtoing to get humiliated 8-1 against man utd,etc etc were any of you guys at those games

After the glory of the previous 2 seasons it was a hell of a crash back to earth.

Leeds won the title but we absolutely pulverised them at home and still lost 1-0. Played on a Friday night for some reason I think. Still remember what one newspaper said - 'Leeds were blessed with the sort of luck that is reserved only for champions'. How true that often is!

One of my top three all time games and it is not often you can say that when your team loses.

Yes - I was there for all the home games - I have a memory that Bobby Keetch of all people took -and missed - a penalty in that Leeds game - and Alan Wilks scoring with his first touch at Highbury. The whole thing was a reality check for my young self -prior to that it had been a bit like supporting North Korea - I thought we always won -well more or less.

was at all the home games, you're spot on with your assessment of this game Gilly, we totally outplayed them, first experience of crowd trouble, before, during and after the game, lots of gooners seeking retribution
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross

[ After standing on the teraces since 1947 my dad and I decided we would have season tickets in the new South Africa Road Stand. Unfortunately the roof was not finished for the start of the season. My worst memory was the team getting murdered by Chelsea and the rain lashing down. Have never forgiven them.
