I think many of us have the exact same concerns! The defense as it is now should be marginally better than last year at least and perhaps will be a whole lot better but yes, you do have legitimate concerns!

I'm thinking the same. Getting Ali back will be massive. At home we'll be ok but I fear we may have a terrible away record again if our back four are weak.

            Stop panicking ffs.

Our defence was superb toward the end of the season bar 1 game. MH and the mgmt team sorted them out and now have had a whole pre season with the squad and have added players.

Add to this the fact we have better players all over the pitch we will spend more time on average in the oppositions half than last year which will also aid us in keeping teams at bay.

Also Diakite will become a more dominant Viera esque beast with every match and will hit the ground running.

Also the player with the best ball winning stats in the prem by a mile last year before injury will be back soon...

Fear not, look forward, look upwards and enjoy the revolution!!

I get what you are saying but take a look at West Ham, Reading, Southampton, Swansea, Norwich, Wigan...and tell me which, if any, have a better defence?

I agree that the above defenders do not really inspire confidence and I don't agree with the other comment on this thread that they looked more organised in the latter stages of the season. stoke had a number of good openings...thanks to Crouch and co for missing them. Also, man city were kept out by Kenny making amends for his error with the opener. Nelsen will perhaps add better organisation, but I would feel happier with a Sambaesque centre back.
Hopefully, QPR will keep possession better and score more goals to make up for the suspect defence.

One top quality centre back is what we need to sort out our defensive issues. We might need an extra left back aswell
