  • This Gelling Argument

I keep seeing this phrase being thrown around by oppo fans, especially Norwich, that QPR will have to gel, and I can't see them gelling together, they haven't got our team spirit.
Now I'm sorry but I don't think Norwich or anybody else has the monopoly on team spirit, and why would our team spirit be worse than anyone else's? Well it's because we keep buying big ego players apparently. Do we? We have bought tried and tested prem players, ex and current internationals, but I don't necessarily see big egos, yes I see big name players who would expect to be in the starting 11 and would walk into other teams 11 with ease, maybe that's it...they are basing this on them being unhappy.
The way I see it is the best most consistent players, command the best money, and go to the biggest clubs...why? because the biggest clubs normally have the most money. But in this case little ol QPR are punching way above our financial weight, in terms of size and longevity in the prem which is upsetting these medium size clubs. We are in a position with our fantastic owners to be able to buy better players than our peers, and in my view better footballers will be able to gel quicker, good players can play together and perform when needed, I think these mid to bottom teams fans are just using this phrase as a comfort blanket,....hoping.

Evening Dave take it you are bored with the Olympic opening ceremony already !!!

I find that the oversight a lot of these supporters of other teams keep making is this, in much the same way as Neil Warnock brought in players he had worked with in the past Mark Hughes is doing something similar so the whole gelling argument is based on players who have never played together before....this in our case is in accurate. Throw in a great team spirit building pre-season tour of Asia and you have the making of a team who could get off to an absolute flyer. Put it into perspective we signed Hoilett, Norwich sign Snodgrass we keep our best players at the club like Taarabt, Swansea lose their best players to Liverpool, Fulham do not have any money to spend whereas this summer our owners have deep pockets. We had overtaken the likes of Everton, Sunderland, Stoke and can competitively compete with Newcastle in the transfer market. These are the facts and it really is starting to wind other teams up. The most ironic thing about it is our fans at present appear to be very humble about the whole situation and the only supporters that have created an issue out of it is those of other Premier league teams. Two more signings and in my opinion top 10 is a formality I have that much faith in Hughes and if you read a lot of the comments from other supporters he is widely regarded as a manager who can hold his own in the Premier league

Yes mate regarding the Ceremony! Good post, very good point about the players having already played together, hadn't thought about that angle, and yeah we can compete with Newcastle and borrussia m g, Just think we had Priskin, up front and lost Damian Delaney to Ipswich because he thought they had more chance of reaching the prem, not that long ago, i just can't thank Tony and his two investors from Malaysia, and Mr. Mittal/ Amit enough.

Good players can play together end of. Ego is the killer and I don't think we have to many of those, just Cisse, Adel and our Joey to keep things interesting. I think we have a good balance of Youth, Experience and Egos. But I guess we will all see very soon who is right.

I think a strong manager like Mark can keep the big egos in check though don't you Drog?
