Sorry not trying to be defensive, just not expressing my view effectively.

Technically speaking I am aware that very small amounts of requests that are failing due to the fcgi-php software I am using sending a header which is larger than the web server was expecting. Less than 500 requests have failed in this way since February and some causes have been identified and fixed. The amount of failed requests has increased in July for an unknown reason, (349 failed in July at the last count) however due to the tiny amounts of requests involved and seemingly random nature of the issue I am having trouble narrowing down the exact cause. Without being able to reliably reproduce the issue diagnosing and fixing the issue is proving rather difficult.

I have a bit of a customer service seeth on at the moment tbf

Council worker guy was cutting grass and strimming weeds etc along the side of our place a week or two ago. He cut down all the foxgloves that were in full flower which was irritating, but their land, their decision, no complaints there. The guy with the strimmer decided that he wasn't done with just the grass by our fence, but came around onto our drive and strimmed two-thirds of a huge lavender on our side of the fence down to ground level.

Complained to the council, not looking for anything, just to suggest they pay attention to what they're doing. They sent a guy with a clipboard out, and he starts mumbling about the reason it must have happened was that the fence might have been shifted at some point.......like the **** with the strimmer had stood their with a copy of the deeds and decided the lavender was on council land first before it, rather than just not paying attention. All he needed to do, was apologise and move on, and yet he felt the need to try and avoid any blame, even in something so clean cut (as it were). Honesty is absolutely key in customer service, you'll only make it worse the moment you stray from it.

Right now since the issue can be commonly fixed by restarting the browser it seems to be cookie or session related. Since restarting the browser will cause a new session and cookie to be created with the server when you return. For mobile devices restarting the browser will involve killing the browser process (android) or restarting the device (ios).

I would be very interested to hear from anyone who runs into the issue and finds they can repeatedly get the error through several refreshes... If they called me on 01162988997, asked for Alan and were able to replicate the fault 'live' for me I could enable some extensive debugging that would otherwise be unsuitable given the large amounts of traffic on the site...

I can tell that once you get the issue it doesnt go away untill you obtain a new session/the site sets a new cookie since as an example at 15:58 someone got the error, then retried at 17:02 followed by 4 attempts in quick succession around 17:28. This was all on an iphone, where the browser doesnt close until you reboot the phone or kill it because its crashed...

Switch it off and back on again and if that don't work hit it with a hammer.

Sprocket has found a cure for this particular strain of the flu virus and broadcasted his findings in this thread. I am trying to eradicate the source of the outbreak :-P

                          Very good.

Deepcut; regarding the gardening problem you encountered. If he strays onto your property again have you any grounds for shooting him with a shotgun?

That's the path I'd probably take to eradicate the problem.

Amusingly someone got the 502 error on their iphone whilst browsing this very thread at 19:36... I would be very interested in hearing from them if they can still replicate the problem...

I have applied some more adjustments to see if the error goes away or the issue at hand becomes more apparent.

I believe its a client (browser) and not a server (web server) issue
