he's never any good when he starts. his fans remember the key moments (and there were several last season) but they forget that when he starts, for the first 70 minutes he often looks totally out of his depth. you just want to chuck him on with 15 to go when you are losing and chucking everything forward, not caring too much about whether its pretty or even possession.

Oh wow.
I tell you what, you can have as many SWP's, Taarabt's and Hoilett's as you want, but Mackie is very important within the context of our squad.
His attitude and bustling energy, plus eye for a goal from the right wing is a good option for us to have - Park is different, he's a very hard worker like Mackie, but without the goal threat IMO.
Ability wise, I don't think he's anything more than an average Championship player, but his heart and desire really shouldn't just be discarded as quickly as some seem to be prepared to.
We don't need to sell Mackie, and as previously said, he's a good squad player (nothing more admittedly) for us to have.
Don't sell him unless he wants to leave.

In games like this though and many next season where we dominate and keep the ball he will struggle as he offers little and does at times look out of his depth.
3.5 million for a squad player is not bad business?

Next season is gonna be difficult. In the majority of games, especially away, I highly doubt we'll 'dominate' at all - and Mackie will be a good weapon for us to have.
3.5m not bad business? You see how much Jay Rodriguez went for? He's never even played PL football.. no deal for me.
