Agree mate i'm sure Villa never envisaged being so close to the bottom 3 last season, but as soon as Bent got injured they slipped badly, as you say SWP doesn't fill us with confidence, but Mackie = game changer

always amuses me when someone writes "end of discussion" - almost invariably they are in the wrong.
i wd be sorry to see him go as think unlike hogan he is capable of coming on and changing a game. BUT the owners have spent a lot of money and look like spending still more. if fernandes wants to recoup some money, and mackie has been identified as a player hughes doesnt have great plans for and he is one of the few peripheral players who cd fetch a decent fee then we as fans should start backing their judgement. i also really like mackie's attitude but we cant keep players just because they are a good egg. i bet half the fans protesting about mackie possibly going were the same ones saying "ffs just give hoilet the money he wants". if mackie's sale wd pay for the purchase of a top centre half who wd maybe start 40 games next season wd you still think it a bad decision? oh sorry, i almost forgot, it is "end of discussion"...

One more point - If we get rid of Mackie as a few people here want - When we next go through bad patch as it will happen please dont complain that our players dont care or try for the shirt and are over paid superstars that run around thinking there the bees kness becuase at the sound of it thats what most people want.
To make a successful team you need all types of characters and Mackies character is one them. One for all.... and all for one

we need to offload way before Mackie.
Works hard ,makes goals, scores goals and can probably do a job in any outfield position if asked.
Also his attitude and enthusiasm for the club are second to none,Rome not bulit in a day.

You also say that we should judge TF and MH judgement if they sell Mackie, i also agree if they do decide to sell Mackie I wont come on here compalining as I do trust their judgement (i will say thank you and all the best), but the point here is that it is not either of them saying he is not good enough and we need to sell but other supporters and as Mackie is part of the team and i appriceate the other qualities he brings to the team I disagree and try and put across why I do with a reason as I like the debate.
TF and MH have and always will have my full support as will Amit. One for all.... and all for one

Incredible to me that we can wave goodbye to an improving player with time on his side and a decent attitude while slow, ageing forwards with disappointing recent form - bar Cisse - pick up a salary. The irony is that although there is a still a stack of dead wood at LR yet we seem keen to ditch someone showing signs of life.
I can't see any of our front players injecting pace. Mackie can do that.

Hughes will sell if a decent offer comes in.

As the Op of this thread, a couple of points. there is no comparison with Hogan, I can't see him getting anywhere neer the squad come the end of August. It has been a good debate apart from some posters who feel need to sling infantile insults regarding JM's perceived ability. I don't mind people disagreeing with me, in fact I welcome it, but please grow up a couple of you. Have some respect for somebody who came back from a serious double fracture, improved his game and worked his socks off. I give you Rowan Vine as a comparison. In recent years we have had a few players that have been content to sit on their arses and take the money. Showing no respect to us or the team when they have played. They are more deserving of criticism than this young man. For what it's worth I think Jamie has a real battle on his hands to nail down a regular spot this year, but I do know he will bust a gut trying. Like I said try and catch the latest edition of Premier League World. If you then still feel the need to insult Jamie you astound me.
