How times have changed in a few years! In the nineties especially oop north home fans would compliment us and say how we were even admired over a pint! I can understand Foolem hating us now but we are proper disliked in Norwich,Stoke,Reading,Blackburn.until recently we hadn't even splashed major cash so don't really understand the turnaround!!

Jealousy.
Stoke - built a new stadium and paid £10m for one player, Crouch.
Reading - also built a new stadium.
Blackburn - spent a fortune on players in their successful pursuit of the title in the 90s.
Norwich - bitter because they missed out on our current chairman.Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

i think people genuinely thought that we bought our success (and way out of the championship) under the previous owners.
as far as i know, although we had one or two high earners, back then, our wage bill wasn't out the ordinary - middlesbrough, cardiff, leicester all paid big (probably bigger) wages, but they didn't have high profile owners who sacked any manager that lost four games in a row - that made us an easy target.
nowadays we seem to be linked to everyone going and the perception is that we'll pay big money - so we're not exactly doing anything about it. we'll need to get used to it...

As Richard said, jealousy is the one key thing.
When you've got a club going places, spending money on good players, building a new training ground, building a new ground (35 to 45,000), going big in Asia, having their logo on a F1 car & having their own plane!. People are jealous they can't match it. Lets face it, who wouldn't want Tony Fernandes as they're chairman? Not to mention Amit, Rigg, Beard, Hughes etcLast edited by qpr; 19-07-2012, 12:17 PM.Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
And many more mistakes

The fact is we did spend our way out of the Championship and had a huge wage bill when we came up. We have since gone on to invest about £20+ million on new players to keep us up. So in all honesty we have to a large extent bought our current success- which is why plenty of fans, especially those of teams up north, don't like us.
However, I'm not really too bothered. For years I watched us get relegated, loose to rubbish teams, have one bad bit of news after another about the club, get laughed at by every other team in the country and scratch around for players on free transfers. Footballs changed, only teams with financial clout do well now- thats the way it has become and the way it will stay. Its a shame but it's the way it is.
My feeling is that we put up with all the crap and we have earned our chance and our crack at the big time, let them moan all they like, it's just jealously and they would give anything to have the owners, resources and future we have.

Many clubs have spent money to win promotion.
Newcastle kept most of their Premiership squad on big wages and then spent some money in the January window to secure their promotion back at the 1st attempt.
Sunderland, Wolves, Birmingham, WBA are other sides who spent to win promotion.
Cardiff, Leicester, Forest and some others have spent money in failed attempts to win promotion.

Bottom line is, we used to punch above our weight. And play good football while doing it. We were one of those clubs people admire.
Money has changed how we are regarded, and has also added a bit of arrogance to some of our fans. And maybe even attracted a fair share of numpties too.
