  • 5 Goals Away To Exeter City..Report

Just shows how football goes, we probably played better against Blackpool and yet come away with 1 goal, though this must be a great confidence builder for Saturday, and for those who say its only Exeter, have a word. These games are tricky and please tell me the last time we won 5-0 away?

We have such an attacking midfield, thats goals will come and this time it was Routledge, another day it could easily be Buzacky or Balanta from midfield. The first half, we did not play well and it was frustrating to watch and I am really feeling for Vine at the moment, he is simply not the player he was before the injury. I hope it was down to the nature of the game (ie Cola Cola Cup), that he was not putting it all, but he doesn't seem to go in for the fifty fifty challenge and was pretty lethargic. Sometimes, players never come back from serious injuries and it could be a mental thing, who knows? His footballing brain is getting him by at the moment and he can pick a pass, but from what I've seen so far, he is a long way from his best. That would be my only negative from the night.

Okay, back to the positives and they were plenty of them. Routledge seems to be thriving under the attack minded Magilton Leadership and was tricky all night and looped a great first goal over the goalkeepers head and scored his second after good hold up work from Ageymang. Ageymang is another frustrating player, but he got stronger as the game progressed. The same comment applied to Hogan, who in the first half was very poor but seemed to gain in confidence when we went 1-0 up and even at the end had a great shot headed off the line. Pellicori did have some nice touches and deserved his goal.

Magilton tried to get Borrowdale and Connolly to overlap in the first half, when he got them in the dressing room at half-time, you can tell he got his message across. Borrowdale in the second half was a different player and have to say on the evidence I have seen, is the best crosser of a football we have at the club and he can defend. Why this kid got so much stick at the start who knows and even more baffling is that Delaney was preferred by the former manager in the left back position.

On the whole, this will be a great confidence booster for the real stuff on Saturday and by having a bit of patience for the next 3-4 games, we will actually see if we need this striker some are begging for.

great result and good second half performance. I agree about the quality of our midfield.

Re vine, its not suprising that he might be going a bit careful in te challanges it will take time in competative games before his confidence in his leg is fully restored but I think he will get there.

it is always possible that we might not need a new striker but by the time we really find out it will be too late, we dont need to take that chance so why should we.
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks

i didnt go to the game, and have seen nothing of Pellicori - however he sounds like hes got what a striker needs - getting in the right plaec at the right time and finishing chances. Too early for me to judge as havent seen anything myself - but thats what we are lacking - someone who gets in the box, and finishes the chances we have been missing

Pete mate...you can't go saying silly things like 'for those who say its only Exeter, have a word.' as its true. They have only just come up from league two mate so you can hardly call it a test. Yes, 5 goals is a good effort against any team, but we drew at home to Blackpool and if we don't beat Plymouth it won't make for the best of starts.

I think we'll destroy Plymouth on Saturday as they're the worst team in the league, but until this happens, no way am I getting carried away.

Pete...that's not the point and you know it.

Vauxhall motors SHOULD have been that way, but we lost. There have been many crap games like that so this is just a tiny bit of payback for those pathetic results.

                        Still question goes unanswered..

If its only Exeter City, when was the last time we won 5-0 away?

I said goals would come from midfleld and Routledge scored 3, cannot ask for more than that. It seems to me some are already making excuses for Plymouth before we play them, so if we win 2 or 3 nil you can say "its only Plymouth and they are the worst team in the league".

We've just won 5-0, lets enjoy it and stop arguing about needing strikers. We have 3 games in 10 days, Plymouth, Bristol City and Forest, lets just see how we do.

That makes more sense than craving for a new striker as games will not be won or lost in the next 10 days on the basis on whether we buy a new forward or not.

I remember loads of people going crazy because of a ledesma hatrick against a pub team this time last year, lets hope this is not Dejavu and we will finish in the top 6.

                            You're golden Pete...absolutely golden.

Again...you miss the point and at the same time are starting to wind me up again. How many times SHOULD we have won 5-0 and didn't?

Let's be completely honest...5-0 should have been expected and seeing as only 2 came against 11 men, we should not be rejoicing too much. After the sending off, we scored a peanaly and they gave up...your words mate, not mine, so to score a further 2 against 10 deflated men is not an accheivement.

Stop avoiding the point and denying the obvious. We still need a striker, regardless. Now, this has indeed made me far more optemistic than Saturdays performance, but you know deep down that this result was no less than it should have been when you take into account they were a league one side last season and 3 goals (including a pen) came against 10 already beaten men.
