Tbf, in this particular instance, even money aside, I can see and understand him going there over us. Given the sums of cash I used as an example (40 and 50k a week), I think that career opportunities should take precedent, as earning the lesser amount of 40k a week is still a ludicrous sum of money.
The fact Borussia Merken-Sillyname-Back can offer CL football means he probably will go there for more than just money.

The point I was trying to make was just a general one regards greed.
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Yeah I know and there's nothing to sag back to that hit the nail on the head. Is this German club a big club then are they in champions league every year? To they even complete the group stages.

Despite how things are looking up just now and that for the first time since I can remember we are actually competing in the transfer market for better players, I think we have to accept that not everyone will want to come to us and that doesn't necessarily mean they have a major personality defect.

I will be surprised if he does sign for them they came fourth in the bundesliga, was not in champions league last year what is to say they will even be regulars like bayern ect.i was looking forward to his signing more on the basis he is young and talented we don't have many of them in our squad they are mostly "oldies".

All things being equal i think he would find the lederhosen, yodelling opportunities and the ready access to local German sausage irresistible.

I think Champions League (qualifiers) and being close to his brother who plays over there will swing it for him.

That said I am chuffed that QPR are now in the hunt for and very close (in this case) to bringing this caliber of player to LR !

Bearing in mind the well publicised wage structure in the Bundesliga, if he did sign for them, it would clearly be because he wants to play Champions League football and feels comfortable with the environment.
It would have nothing to do with greed because I'm pretty sure the pay structure doesn't match what Newcastle were alleged to have offered, let alone us. Oh and it will have even less to do with this greedy father story also, because German football is run in such a way that agents and other leeches do not get big fat fees for doing deals.
The whole set up of German football right now is so impressive, from the structure all the way down to pricing and attendances, stadia and training methods.
The only thing missing is the excitement that seems to be generated in our league over and above any other - but I think the Bundesliga is actually working to a blueprint that works and will have more chance of competing with the EPL than other European leagues in a few short years.

It just every footballer dream to play in the champions league, he's just going over there to have a chat to get the feel of the club and see if he's might get any regular football out there.

                  Dont dismiss him just yet

                  My take at it aswell.

Dont quite understand fans moaning about greed. If we are going to sign Hoilett we actually WANT him to be greedy because we are objectively the smallest, least successful club pursuing him (Reading aside). Apart from money, why would a player choose us over Everton and Newcastle? He owes us no loyalty. The main reason Hoilett (like Barton, SWP etc) would come to us would probably be because we offer the most bunce. Yes, I know players all say how excited they are by our "project" etc and that certainly can't do any harm, but nor can the fact that we are apparently willing to pay higher wages than any other club for mid-level Prem players.

If he signs, then great. If he doesn't I see Everton haven't finalised anything with Pinnear yet - not as young I grant you but back end of last season he was twice as effective for Everton as Hoilett was for Blackburn. So yes, I'd love him to sign but am not going to be putting dark spells on him if he goes elsewhere.

Probably being sentimental here, but would rather have a player who wants to pu his heart and soul into wearing the hoops. Or at least one that believes in the direction the club wants to go and wants to be part of that, not just to the highest bidder.

In that case lets get rid of all the new signings and welcome back lee cook, marc bircham, probably paddy kenny and all the other old trundlers. cant have it both ways.
