Although we all know racism is not acceptable - how serious a crime to you think calling someone a name is? Especially if he can prove he was provoked. In the eyes of the Law it is not as serious (and rightly so) as violent crimes, like assualt. One thing that people don't seem to have talked about is the fact that if Anton had made a complaint to the FA - Terry may have been banned by them, but he didn't, a member of the public complained to the police, which means they acted and the FA could not without risk of repurcussions themselves.

The reason this is important is that players get into fights on the pitch every season. Can a member of the public now report that to the police as an official complaint and expect to see a player in court for assualt? It would mean the end to Joey's acreer pretty quickly!

And that is a bad thing?!!!!!......everyone (the FA, the police etc) are taking a very strong stance against racism of any kind so it is important that if an ex england captain is accused of using racially based name calling .......he be given the chance to clear his name.

As ridiculous as this sounds, there will be some young chelsea fans who actually look up to JT as some sort of role model.. and.. if he said these words and isn't punished..........

When I had known that the maximum charge would be £2,500, I realised how useless this trial is.

You'd have to be pretty naive to think this will only cost Terry the £2500 fine if he's found guilty.

Ever heard of "reputation management". This is huge, its nothing to do with £2,500. Brand Terry is finished and Brand Chelsea is tarnished if he is found guilty.

This is about making clear racism is not acceptable. That's still not a popular message, sadly to many on here as well.

You do realise that once someone complains to the OB it becomes a criminal case. The FA would be breaking a couple laws by acting while there is an ongoing criminal proceedings.

Also if found guilty, any offender (along with a fine) pays for the costs of the case.

If the consequences of being guilty is the FA will give hime like 12 matches ban then yes.

Got to be more than Saurez as Terry will have been convicted in a criminal court I'd have thought? Only mitigation might be that Anton wound him up, but Saurez claimed the same about Evra. Plus Saurez cd claim something was lost in translation or whatever, not so easy for Terry to claim that. Just mho.

Cant even see him getting found guilty tbh. Seems black & white to me (no pun intended!), hes not even denying saying what he did, yet somehow theres even talk of it being thrown out of court?!

Absolute joke if he isnt found guilty. Yes, I am bias obviously, but even the Chelski fans I speak to (ones with half a brain) say its a sham if he gets off when theres video evidence of him saynig it, and hes admitting it himself. I mean, what kind of let off is the fact somebody called you a nasty name before hand (even then, JT slung the first "C word"), does that give you the right to racially abuse somebody?
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Hadn't thought of it that way mate, you could have a point, i was going by the Suarez precedent must admit.I do feel sorry for Anton, seems he has been treated like he was the guilty one in all this, hope it doesn't affect him too much

Terry and his legal team have been very clever mate, mind you that's what he pays them for, they know what has been seen so admit that bit, but no one can prove what has been said when he has been obscured by a team mate, and when the camera was not on him, i can see him getting off too

and that to me is a bad thing, i know people say if you walk down the street and do those things you would end up in court so it should be the same for footballers. But a pitch is not the street, the public aren't allowed on the pitch, the players are insured to be there, it should not be counted the same imo
