He is 1 of the top "mucky midfielders" out there that just sit in front of the back 4 and break things up, giving the ball to others (in our case maybe Faurlin, Park, Adel) to do the creative stuff.
Of course De Jong is better than Derry, but I think we have Faurlin and Diakite there. Faurlin is a creative player but we have no-one to cover him. Park is not creative, he's a worker like Barton. De Jong breaks, but doesn't give balls to your own players and is quite slow. A 10 times better version of him is Yaya Toure.

Taarabt, Hoilett (who looks fairly certain to join), Faurlin, Diakate, Zamora, Cisse, Mackie, Johnson, SWP and PARK are all creative attacking players.

If De Jong leaves City, he'll end up joining a top European club because he's still a very good player

He would be a huge signing IMO . Those who say we don't need him must be on the pipe!! A midfield three of diakite, faurlin and de Jong would be out of this world, then an attacking three of taarabt, Cisse and Park. We would destroy teams. Not many midfields could get through that lot

Do we need both Hoilett and De Jong, though?

Pardon?! Hoilett is an attacking winger and De Jong is a hard tackling midfielder who doesn't cross the halfway line!

I would love him in our side. He's a rough and tough kind of player, something we don't really have at QPR. So many times last year, especially on the road, we would get pushed around as a side, De Jong is one hell of a force to command our team in the middle. He'd batter the Odemwingie's of this league who we too often let run around us carefree.
Also, he's coming from Man City, so he knows how to win, he won't fancy losing regularly, we need players who have experience of winning week in-week out in this league.
                      Go get him Sparky.

i dont understand why people feel we dont need quality players? its a 25 man squad that has to last the season, where there will no doubt be suspensions, injuries and hopefully if we ever do well in a cup lots of mid week games which leads to tired legs. why people are getting annoyed saying we dont need quality throughout the squad and only in the starting 11 is strange to say the least, we're a club that wants to go places so why try and put the brakes on this progress?

Football is not to me only buying game.

its not to me either but our academy is still in the process of developing players to high standard that we can finally use instead of having to sell of as we used to have to when we were broke. and our squad is not the youngest whereby the players have the potential to improve. so where else do we get the quality from?

IMO we need a strong defensive midfielder far, far more than we do another AM/winger (like Hoilett, Ki, Lee).

Barton out, Faurlin out for at least a few months, Diakite likes to charge around (and will earn his fair of suspensions), and while Park can play there it's not where he's spent most of his career. That leaves us with just Derry.

De Jong, Diarra, Wanyama - one of these lads would be just the ticket.
