  • The new stadium naming thread

As it seems almost 100% done that we are getting a new spanker of a home, perhaps we should try and think of a name?

Best lay down some rules as well.

    1. You CAN have a sponser name if you can imagine us getting a sponser for it (i.e. the Durex stadium :drunk
    2. Simply "the QPR stadium" won't fly.
    3. We can't call it Loftus Road :TT-TT:

    I'll start.

The Prince Arena (after Kyan Prince)
QPR, remember that name, you'll be cursing it later

And who on earth is going to pay you ten million a year to call it the prince arena? It will be a company name (the Vodaphone Arena or whatever). If they cant get sponsorship he will settle on the air asia arena.

I do agree stadium names are a large source of rev but I think it'd be noble to jump off the bandwaggon there.

The Air Asia Arena or the Mittal Steel Arena.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Nobility unfortunately doesn't pay the bills. I don't really care what they call it as long as it gets built.

                Here's an interesting read:

Looks like there isn't all that to be earned from a brand name stadium then?

Unless perhaps something majory, like Sony or something.

Actually, that's not a bad guess. I'm sure I read something a while back that Lakshmi Mittal had something to do with them.

Maybe not, but remember, this isn't going to be just a football stadium, but a major music venue as well I think.

                          Mittal Stadium

I think to maximise any marketing potential for a sponsor it needs to be a single word so people then call it by that brand, such as the 02, Emirates, Etihad etc..... examples such as The Sports Direct Arena dont have the same affect... yeah we're going down the Sports Direct...

Exactly, they will want to make the stadium a brand in its own right (no coincidence beard ran the O2). Football will prob amount to less than half the revenue. They will want something that sounds cool to people who dont give a monkeys about football. We cant as a fan base have it both ways, of wanting massive investment (£180m for new stadium, according to The Times) and at the same time get all Newcastle Utd about it and start complaining about a name change.
