  • Does anyone else think we need a right winger?

This isn't an anti mackie thread as he is useful to us and is a handful against smaller more athletic full backs like that Assou Ekotto... but against bigger full backs like Huth he fought hard but what we really needed was a more skillful and pacy winger. I don't trust swp to show any kind of form next season so I can't see who I would have out there. There's been a lot of talk about needing a centre mid and centre back but nothing about the right wing which I think was a problem last year especially at the start.

Not really you can play Tarbs there or SWP, he owes this season..

Well tarbs has never played on the right before and that would create a gap to fill on the left. But most importantly do you think swp will be of any use to us this season? He showed absolutely nothing to suggest that for the whole of last season.

If we played possession ball we certainly would need one, but I think that is not Hughes style of game, so no need at the moment.
Mackie was very good when we were underdogs, but he did not do well against other relegation sides.
I would play SWP against poorer teams and home and Mackie against top six and away.

I think we'll be alright with who we have! As others have mentioned Mackie does a pretty fair job on the right side and although he was mostly poor last season for some reason I expect SWP to contribute this year!

Good players adapt and tarbs could easily play there , as for SWP i really think he will step up this year under Hughes
By the way during a game Tarbs pops up in quite a few positions, sometimes putting balls in from the right

Yes, and his name is Lee Chung-Yong, Bolton.

                  Traore.

I think we could always improve, obviously, and so could always say "we should get so and so, hes better than what we have", but its a case of evaluating whether what you have is good enough to cope with the league position you are aiming for. IMO, having Mackie & SWP (as somebody said, owes us big time and I have a wierd feeling he could come good for us this year.... Fingers crossed), there, plus Adel should needs be, is more than enough for a side whos looking to survive and establish themselves in the PL. If we survive ok this year, then maybe next year when we are looking to push on, we can look elsewhere. But for now, IMO, we are fine at RM.

as matty says you can always improve but weve only had swp for six months. yes he has been a let down so far but respectfully think you are being a bit impatient. Ultimately you might be right - I wd really like Hoilet for instance - but we cant replace an entire team twice a season. Well, actually, judging by qpr the last couple of years we prob can...

Hoilett would be great but all signs are that he's going to Germany, he also plays mostly on the left although I'm sure he could be used on the right as well!

Yes I do. Quite sure he would do a great job for us. He is in our price range and would prob love to continue playing in the Prem.

Youre not wrong there tbf. Also liked that Holden of Bolton before he got injured, looked a cracking little player.

Agreed!! If Coyle had given him more gametime in their last match against Stoke, they would have survived. He is a very unpredictable player, hence he must be a mare to play against.

                              Sign him up!
