Well, I am in favour of the Games, but I remain to be convinced that they will make money. We won't know until many years down the line.Originally posted by MattyRangers View PostJust an opinion taking into account the amount of jobs created due to it, the influx of tourists and how much they will all input to our economy with buying hotels, eating out, shopping etc etc etc. The infrastructure of the games has been built on time & to budget, with 98% of the companies used being British - without this how many of these companies do you think would still be around? And if they were, their turnover would be greatly reduced.
There is also a link to an article on the matter.

I'm not going to get involved as to whether the games are of any financial benefit , but please don't give use the "On time, On budget" c**p as that's very easy to do if you are allowed to nearly quadruple the original budget!

Matty - the economy will not get a boost that meets the cost - not anywhere near it, that is why countries are starting to look away from hosting now. That article suggests that it might get a bit more based on us being able to showcase businesses to people while they are here - that is not quantifyable. It is also a line the Government has to spin.
Also the REAL cost to the MOD, Security, Counter Terrorism and Defence is not mentioned ANYWHERE when you read about the costs (not including policing) - this cost is deliberately kept masked. That cost is in the billions.
Not in the slightest bit intererested in the Olympics and no idea why we would want to host it. It will just put people coming off here in future years IMHO!
As for the football - FIFA will not enforce us all playing as GB, because outside of some delegates - real football fans around the world don't care and prefer it as it is. It would also cause a rift that could topple any leader of FIFA or cause serious damage to the organisation that they have no need of provoking .Last edited by silvercue; 02-07-2012, 04:59 PM.

The real risk is there'll be one FA which would probably lead to a restructuring of the league system. They might even restructure the EPL to include Cardiff Rangers and Celtic which in their eyes would make it a truly British league. Sky would wet their knickers.Originally posted by janemelanie View PostIf there is one GB team, does this mean that there would be one football league?
Then again, who would go to Wembley to see Britain play?Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

To say that they are overstating the level of income from the olympics is a understatement, Lets see how many housing and commercial development opportunitys suddenly arise from the land being developed at the tax payers expence. This was just another opportunity for the new labour chattering classes to pull our pants down again.Originally posted by vblockranger View Posteconomy boosts in the millions according to government analysts which is great...unfortunately the costs look to be spiralling up to the £24 billion mark.....So dont let Cameron fool you into thinking it was a great bit of business. We have patients in hospitals all over the country dying due to the high cost of the cancer drugs used to treat them. Wheres the sense?Last edited by toptop; 02-07-2012, 09:40 PM.
