  • Somewhat relevant due to GB announcment

I only just learnt that the Scotts are up in arms about any of the Scottish players being in team GB.
My understanding is that they are worried about us ALWAYS playing as GB in major tournaments.
If this is true, are they THAT F**ing deluded and stupid to think that we would jack in the world title and the 3 lions to stick a welsh player and a scottish player on the bench?
Get a grip home nations boys, England are far too good to be GB. Good luck to Team GB in the Olympics, and I can't wait to see the 3 lions at WC2014
QPR, remember that name, you'll be cursing it later

From what I've heard Pearce hasn't selected any Scottish players anyway. I really don't know why the Scottish and Northern Irish FA's have made such a song and dance of this Team GB thing, personally I think it's a good thing for our nations to be competing as Great Britain again.

We've already had this debate which you've obviously failed to read. While you guys are busy slagging off the Scottish, Irish and Welsh FAs, they have just cause for not getting involved. There is a real danger that FIFA may well end up forcing the four home nations to merge into a permanent British FA, and entering a single team for the Euros and world cup called Great Britain. I for one do NOT want this happening but go ahead, cheer team GB to glory and look at the possibility of the end of home nations football as we know it now.

Go to this link and scroll down to where it says London 2012 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_B..._football_team

Some of you guys may be happy to sacrifice England for a GB team, I'm not. And don't think the threat isn't real. It is, and there are many FIFA members asking, if Britain is a unified state, why does it have four football teams entering competitions? I see myself as English and not British, and I want to keep my national football team, the same way the Scots, Welsh and Irish want the same for their countries.

FIFA never forced Belgium, Netherlands & Luxemburg to form 1 'BeNeLux' team after the war.
North & South Korea play seperately within FIFA's competitions.
Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia all have seperate identities within FIFA.

Of course, like UEFA, FIFA hate England, but I can't seem them being able to stop the 4 home Nations competing seperately.
They don't want Europe vs America or Africa vs Asia do they ?
        Panic overkill IMO.

who the fck cares about the Olympics anyhow? Pensioners short of money to pay inlfated heating bills and hospitals sharing vital equipment due to lack of money....yet we spend billions on hosting some event that most people arent even interested in. Cant even bear to watch the shite on TV let alone pay over inflated price for a ticket.

economy boosts in the millions according to government analysts which is great...unfortunately the costs look to be spiralling up to the £24 billion mark.....So dont let Cameron fool you into thinking it was a great bit of business. We have patients in hospitals all over the country dying due to the high cost of the cancer drugs used to treat them. Wheres the sense?

Belgium Netherlands and Luxembourg are NOT part of a UNIFIED state. Benelux is not a state, it's a customs union

North and South Korea are NOT part of a UNIFIED state.

Latvia Lithuania and Estonia are NOT part of a UNIFIED state.

England, Scotland, Wales, and NI are part of a UNIFIED state called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Still, go ahead and dismiss the statements made by various high ranking football officials, and the official supporters clubs of each home nation who oppose team GB if it makes you happy.

Did you bother to read the link I put up? It's all there, but for your benefit, I will post the relevant section. Please read it carefully so you understand what I've been trying to say:

FIFA President Sepp Blatter's view was seen as important. He had given assurances to each of the British Associations that their status would not be affected by fielding a combined team in 2012.[43] The SFA refused to change its position, arguing that Blatter's personal opinion and permission might not matter once he has left office, and that they did not wish to jeopardise their status.[36] Blatter seemed to change his view in March 2008, when he stated that "they should enter only a team composed of players from England"[44] and he suggested that the independent status of the four British associations could be harmed by a unified team.[44] UEFA chief executive David Taylor, a former chief executive of the SFA, said in August 2008 that a British Olympic team would threaten the existence of the individual home nations.[45] Taylor also said that the unique status of the Home Nations had come under attack before from other FIFA members, and that it was "difficult to see what guarantees could be given" to protect that status.[45] At a conference held in conjunction with the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, the prospect of a UK team for the 2012 Olympics was discussed by the FIFA Executive Committee, who gave their approval.[46]

will never happen. scotland looking for independence and the chance that one day ireland will become united would put paid to those proposels. they would have to reverse any decisions. no one would go to see a gb team. you should'nt let it worry you so much!!

Just an opinion taking into account the amount of jobs created due to it, the influx of tourists and how much they will all input to our economy with buying hotels, eating out, shopping etc etc etc. The infrastructure of the games has been built on time & to budget, with 98% of the companies used being British - without this how many of these companies do you think would still be around? And if they were, their turnover would be greatly reduced.

There is also a link to an article on the matter.
