That Adel pass is unreal. Imagine the plaudits and praise Messi would get if he pulled off such a pass, you'd never hear the end of it.
It's actually quite the opposite. Messi is so good that he does things like this all the time, and people hardly comment on it anymore. Take Dalian Atkinson's 1992 Goal of the Season. People still bang on about it now. He ran from inside his own half, past a couple defenders, and chipped the goalkeeper. A great goal. Well Messi has scored about five like that in the last 18 months alone...
Michael Owen is another example. That goal vs Argentina is overrated precisely because it was unlike him. Messi scored a similar, but better, goal maybe 15 times last season. I bet none of them will be voted The Sun's greatest goal of all time though.
Messi has made the extraordinary mundane.
Or, to look at this from the opposite direction:
I remember Leon Jeanne pulling off a backheel nutmeg once, down infront of the Loft. I remember Faurlin bringing out some tricks when we were 4-1 up vs Swansea on Boxing Day '10. I remember Mark Nygaard randomly pulling off a great bit of skill in front of the West Paddock.
I remember these moments better than individual Adel moments, as Adel does stuff like that all the time.
Definitely Don Masson but with Currie and Wilkins a very close second. To be fair though that whole 74 - 77 side could pass the ball well, Francis, Bowles, Givens, Hollins, Venables, Clement, Gillard and Mclintock were all very capable passers of the ball. They had to be to play the style of football Sexton wanted.
as a midffield player don masson was some player he had already massed a massive 80 league goals before he joined qpr
theres no way that currie or wilkins were better than him,he could hit the ball with incredible velocity, but he also used to use a screw back mechanism rather like billiard ball players
so depending on what part of the ball he hit he could swerve the ball completely around the player so as he run at the goal the ball would magically drop at the strikers feet
don givens and bowles scored loads of goals from his passes
well it wasn't Stan he couldn't pass the bookies! probably Mason Currie not far behind and of course the greatest player to play for our club a certain Mr G.Francis
With Masson and Francis in the side, it was no wonder we were the best footballing team in the country at one point. Bowles or Givens at the end of it?
Football poetry and that is no understatement.
Actually, according the Stan's book, he didn't like Don Givens, but thought he was a bloody good player.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.
