I'm not saying I necessarily support any possible move of the Wasps back to LR, but we need to do something to increase the use of the stadium which will in turn increase revenue. Remember, the fair play rules come into effect soon and we have to grow revenue.Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Am I right in thinking Hammersmith Apollo, Earls Court and Wembley Arena are all due to be closed? In which case building a Stadium which can accomodate the void left by these venues closing should be fairly straight forward and ensure we are busy year round.

The irony here is that there would be far more pressure to increase revenue if we move to an identikit new stadium.
In these days of TV based audiences and massive international online gambling markets (spreads, Asian Handicaps, exchanges) we, along with the other EPL clubs, should be seeking to protect and enhance those revenues.
I think we need a new stadium like a hole in the head.

Not sure if you're correct on your point. After all, clubs such as Spurs, Chelsea, West Ham, Everton, Liverpool, as well as us are looking for new homes. You'll also find that Man C, Southampton, Sunderland, Swansea, Reading, Stoke and Wigan have acquired new stadiums in recent years. And that's just next season's EPL line up.
There must be something in this new stadium lark eh?Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

If they use LR, the pitch will be ruined with those big lumps jumping, sliding about and beating each other up on the pitch. They can use Brentfords stadium instead"When you went to the corner and saw our fans celebrating the way they were you just wanted to be part of it" - Shaun Derry after we beat the scum 1-0

There are so many iffy scenarios involved here. Obviously there are a number of comptetitors close at hand, meaning that those attendance projections have to be right on the money. You have to work out how many bums on seats are consistently required to make this a profitable scenario and not an albatross, factoring the effect increased ticket prices will have, and ticket prices always increase when a club moves. You have to figure out to what extent playing at property development will disable your expenditure on bringing talent to the club, no one want a shiny new stadium while their league position plummets. You have to figure out what is the realistic money you can raise on on the old ground in an uncertain financial market. You have to be absolutely certain that there is no more development potential where we are, bearing in mind that within five years or so it is likely we'll be adopting the German model of 'safe stands' - basically terraces with intelligent barrier distribution. (The SFA have recently adopted it.) If we were moving, I'd certainly want some accurate intelligence on that front because it could make a very big difference to stadium design. You don't have to be a genius to work out why everyone is so keen on implimenting a terrace policy - it's seen as a way to tempt crowds back again. And not before time.
Assuming no more development is possible at LR, and you decide to make the move, you have to ensure you don't end up in a souless, identikit stadium with the fans seperated from the pitch to accomodate the other functions you desperately neeed to ensure you break even in your new home. You just have to be very honest about the size of your club in terms of your projections. It maybe that the property deal involved is so favourable in its own right that it's a must do, but these days I'd be amazed if that turned out to be the case.
Right now, this is not a no brainer scenario. If the internet and media rights didn't exist, then sure, way to go. Many marketing people would say you grow the club among populations who will never attend in person, because it's cheaper than building a brand new gaff and those markets are massive relative to supporters who actually attend. Loftus Road can be intimidating precisely because people are jammed in and practically within touching distance of the players. It's far easier to turn into a fortress than somewhere like the Emirates. That kind of experience will soon become even more of an asset because it will be virtually unique in the prem. I'd prefer us to stick around and turn up the volume in the way that helped the club stay up last season. Small can be beautiful. Just my take. I still think we probably will end up moving, but I'd prefer to see the case for doing so made out rationally rather than simply following the herd.Last edited by hal9thou; 30-06-2012, 01:45 AM.
