Quite simply...a player is 'worth' whatever someone will pay for them.....

We could probably do another couple of pages with valuations ranging from a quid to a squidillion.....but the upshot is....that if another team see Jamie Mackie as the final piece of their particular jigsaw......they will pay whatever they have to.

If Young worth so much why is Mackie worth so little?
Am not a great fan of young but he can trap a ball, control it and run with it at his feet without running it out of play with his head down. These are all aspects of the game which even the most rose tinted fan might agree Mackie cd show some improvement in.

Well...Young is worth more because he will cheat his way to at least 5 penalties per season........He will cheat again and get innocent opposing players sent off and finally , when he is within 30 yards of the opposition goal he will hit the deck at the slightest touch and generally be a cheating little c***.

Good news though is that he is s*** at taking penalties for the national side.

Next season hopefully he will start from the beginning and the challenge is to get more goals to prove he is worth more. Glad he is still with us. Yes no skills but hunger and passion. We need this kind of player when a skilfull player like Taarabt does not perform.

That run and diving header against City which is still vividly ingrained in me nut has made Jamie a priceless asset to us.
One million ? ho ho !!

Exactly mate, if that goal had been scored at the other end by Aguero people would be raving about it but because it's Jamie Mackie it get's underplayed. As for the winner against Liverpool, absolutely top drawer finish that was the catalyst for the turn around in our season and yet some people on here question his place in the squad or suggest selling him for 1 or 2 million would be good business.

                It really does beggar belief!

it really ****s me off when people say he has "no skill", he may not be a flair player, but he does have a lot of skill. He is a fantastic finisher, against liverpool and city he scored goals that a lot of players would have missed under the pressure, he closes down very well, i would love to see a stat shwoing how much possession he has won back in the oponents half. He tracks back and defends very well.

Considering he was playing in the conference 3 seasons ago and how much he clearly wants it, i can imagine he knows the shortfalls in his game, and is giving 100% to try and improve, I think next season we will see a much improved JM

Mackie prospered in a relegation dog fight. He was great against the likes of Arsenal/Spurs/Swansea at home because they like to have the ball and his closing down/desire brought rewards. His efforts were just what a team fighting relegation needed. Fair play to him for that.

This though is a new season. We are not in a relegation fight. Hughes will want us to dominate teams and keep the ball like we did against Stoke which requires players with better skill and ability when they have the ball. This is where Mackie will fall short as when he gets the ball he often loses it with silly runs or wayward passes. He also creates very little for the frontmen.

Am sure Hughes will buy a couple more and he may well start with SWP. For all his abuse he still got the most assists last season and works well with Cisse. Which leaves mr Mackie as an impact sub. A very useful one as he will run his behind off and can finish very well.

Mackie has pace, and that's in desperately short supply with the likes of Zamora and Johnson (ffs) on the books. it would be a tactical mistake to loose him under those circs, plus - again unlike the rest of the ageing forward line - there's improvement in him. You can have an awful lot of skilled players but without some raw speed you aint going anywhere, even Spain include at least one speed merchant in the 6 across.

EDIT Just noticed he signed a new contract with us on May 16th which makes this a surreal thread...

... witness his goal against city, pace on the left, pace down the middle, wallop. That's what you want him for, to do a specific job.

I'm sure the Mackie haters know this, but they don't like losing an argument so they won't back down!
