Following a full internal investigation, Queens Park Rangers Football Club can confirm Joey Barton has been fined six weeks' wages and will no longer be Club Captain.

The 29 year-old midfielder will also be absent from the Club's pre-season tour of Asia in July.

The Club has also reached agreement with Barton that if he seriously breaches the Club's disciplinary procedures again, the Club reserves the right to terminate his contract.

CEO Philip Beard said: "It was important that we took our time to make sure we came to the correct decision, which I believe we have achieved.

"Joey's behaviour, which led to his red card at Manchester City, and his subsequent actions were completely unacceptable and we have made our feelings on this matter known to him.

"I am really pleased with the way in which the Club and Joey have worked towards reaching a sensible conclusion and we fully believe he will respond to these sanctions in the correct manner."

Barton said: "My behaviour was wrong and I accept the punishment that has been imposed upon me as a result.

"I apologise to the Manager, my team-mates and of course the QPR fans for my actions. I also apologise to the Manchester City players, staff and supporters."

*The Club and Joey Barton will be making no further comment.

Except for his latest tweet 2 minutes ago:

"I was reckless and deserved every punishment I received. Money comes and goes, it's not important to me. Losing the captaincy and missing 12 games is what really hurts. I was stupid and that what happens when u do dumb things. I am confident ill bounce back. Cannot wait. That's all I have to say on the matter. I wish to put it behind me now and help QPR, once available of course, push on towards the top half."

But what about his tweeting habit?
Banning people is no longer my hobby,
but take a look at my photo blog:

How and why did I start supporting QPR in Estonia:

I guess this sentence would cover that:

I think this is a sensible approach!

As nice as it would be to thank Joey for his efforts and sever our ties, it really isn't as simple as that. Contracts these days are water tight and generally protect the player against being sacked for anything but very serious misconduct (i.e. criminal behaviour or similar). With this in mind getting Joeyoff the books was always going to be extremely costly, unless we could find a buyer which is not likely given his recent form and the salary that we are reportedly paying him.

I'm glad that Joey has shown some remorse and made a public apology. I hope that this ban and being stripped of the captaincy is a wake up call to him and he comes back firing on all cylinders after the ban.

six weeks is two weeks wages per offence he was found guilty for... two weeks for tevez, two weeks for aguero and two weeks for kompany. pfa can't really argue about that.

Club between a rock and a hard place on this one. Not much else they could do unless they went the nuclear option which would have meant this whole thing would drag o into next season with the possibility of disrupting the season. We now move on with Barton under no illusions. Doubt he will be named in the 25 so he will have to wait until January to play atthe earliest.

I'm OK with how this is all playing out, hopefully he returns more motivated than ever! I must say I'm getting a little tired of defending the guy from fans of other clubs, what he did in the heat of the moment was wrong but he is being made out by some to be a mass murderer! His reputation has much to do with it but fans of other teams don't even realize that was only his second red and the first was undeserved! Hopefully this works out well for the club and for Barton!

                                Agree with all that.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.
