I know the incident has been debated to death on here but doesn't anyone find it ironic that the diving Tevez is made out to be the victim here? If the ref wasn't choosing to ignore or doing his job properly Tevez would have been off the park and the whole debate would have been on Man City boards as to what to do with Tevez after he cost a Championship!

Yeah, if the ref had seen that incident differently the whole course of history including where the title went could have been totally different. I think the point is though that Joey needs to stop getting himself involved in these type of situations. He has just become such an easy target, as long as he keeps reacting the likes of Tevez and Aguero will keep getting him booked or sent off.

You do realise by giving yet another chance causes us as a team a lot of hassle. Just because there has been a clause put into his contract about future conduct that will not include sending offs it will only be for violent conduct or breach of rules away from the club. So if he does get back into the side he will be targeted by other supporters and players knowing full well he will snap.So where does that leave us ,down to 10 men as probably losing more points and then we have the effect it takes on the other players where they toe the diciplinary line but he takes there place in the team. Are we so sure that JB is such a qulity player that he is worth all this aggro,he will never change.I support our team as a whole and not as individuals so will support the team whoever is in the starting line up but i just dont think we need this hassle.

You're missing the point mate.

He has 3 years left on a very well paid contract. What else are we meant to do? If we get behind Joey and give him another chance with a bit of luck he starts playing some good football again. Then we have options (i.e. getting the most out of him as a player or trying to offload him). At the moment Joey is on a poor run of form and public enemy number 1 and we are the mugs paying his 75 grand a week salary. Surely you see that the course of action the club has taken is about the only sensible option?!!!

That's gotta be b*llocks right?!!! As Dave said, we will have another Rowan Vine, just on 4 times the salary. Surely the club aren't that stupid, we will never offload Joey if he is allowed to sit in the reserves and I know the Directors have deep pockets but surely we can't afford to just have 75 grand a week squandered?!!!

But let's put this ridiculous myth to bed that it would have cost us 11 million to terminate his contract. Firstly - that is not how contracts work now, you don't have to pay up the contract unless legally bound to do so which we would not be, secondly if the club do decide to pay then there is a usually compromise agreement reached and thirdly any conduct that constitutes a breach of contract (which we have plenty on him for) means we would have to pay nothing unless he could get something through the courts, so again an agreement would be his best outcome.

The ONLY reason we are taking this action is because he is an asset worth nmoney. His value now is poor, but it will increase once the ban is lifted and then he will be on his way and good riddance.

Not sure I agree with that mate.

Contracts signed by Premiership footballers are not like the contracts that the likes of you and I sign when we start a new job. They are water tight and basically commit the club to paying an agreed wage for the contract duration. If it was a myth that is how these contracts work, would Hull City have gone to the brink of administration to keep paying Jimmy Bullard's salary after they were relegated? Would we have kept paying Rowan Vine his salary (including an uplift and bonus for promotion) for a full 2 seasons after injury runied his career? If it was as simple as just agreeing a pay off both those scenarios would not have happened.

The fact is to sack Barton he would need to have done something far more serious than an on the field incident like at City. It would need to have been some sort of criminal charge or similar to constitute misconduct worthy of terminating his contract. If we are talking about reaching a mutual agreement to terminate Barton's contract, that is something the player does not need to agree to if he doesn't wish to do so (see Rowan Vine again). Look at it from Barton's point of view, he has a gaurenteed 75k a week for the next 3 years, if you were him how much would you want to tear up that contract? It isn't going to come cheap is it?

Tarbie - two things. Injuries are covered by insurance in many cases and also we would have flimsy grounds to sack someone for being injured. And although you are right about players contracts being water-tight, clubs are getting much better now too. We have a case for gross misconduct that would stand up at ANY industrial/employment tribunal - I know this for a fact, and it means we would not have to pay him. It would be a compromise agreement at best, which is in fact what happens a lot now anyway - the media blow things up to a nonsence.
