We definitely lacked premiership experienced players last year, but how many do we need? Im sure there will be some good younger players to sign still, but I dont see why we need as many "older" players as we seem to be linked with.
Murphy is a quality player. He can tackle and his passing is amongst the best.

As already posted, Barton will be out until at least November (may not even make the 25 in August). And Faurlin will be still trying to get fully fit when the season starts. No need to rush him like they did with Rowlands.

If Diakite doesn't sign, QPR will need someone like Murphy.

If Diakite doesn't sign then I'll be hoping for a lot more than Murphy...

I posted on another thread that 7 of our likely starting 10 outfield players have an average age of 24. Apart from Green, 32, our over 30s players will be Cisse 30, Zamora 31, and Hill 33. Hardly grandads. A good mixture of youth and experience. Some of the players we are looking at are likely to be back up players, and players have longer careers these days
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Exactly this. A quite possible starting 11 first game of the season would be:

            Green - 32
            Onouha - 25
            Ferdinand - 27
            Hill - 33
            Fabio - 21
            Tarbs - 23
            Faurlin - 25
            Diakite - 23
            Traore - 22
            Zamora - 31
            Cisse - 30.

This is an average age of 26.5, hardly old. A side in our position (ie looking to become an established PL side) needs, IMO, to have plenty of experienced heads. Honestly think we have a perfect blend of youth and experience as it is.

You not rate Nedum at RB? I agree Anton was shakey at the start of the year, but thought he looked pretty good with a commanding CB with him (ie Hill). Fabio is a promising little player I think and could be a real assest (once confirmed official!).

If anything I think Hill will be the one to drop out of that, maybe for Nelsen? Wouldnt myself, but I can see Sparkie doing so.

You don't survive the EPL with a shed load of mediocre has beens and no pace. End of. You need to start thinking long term right now.

I reckon you should give Sparkie a bell mate, seeing as you know better than him n all that. Seems he could do with your help.

Btw, what formation do you play on Football Manager? Im playing a 4-4-2 atm but Im struggling, any pointers?

No, you think short term survival for now. The club is already thinking long term. That's why they're building a new training ground and academy.

Rome wasn't built in a day my friend.

I guess it depends on whether you think spending money on 30+ average pros really is a survival strategy - like I said, there is no such thing as a free. Let's suppose the rumours are true and K.Schmeichel wants out of Leicester (Spurs are on the case). Short term, Rob Green looks better business and he'll do well for us, but KS is already as good and a better prospect, so medium/long term he would be a better investment.

The average age will soon start increasing if we continue the way we have been headed just recently, and my worry has been a lack of pace alongside Cisse. Fabio and Diakite on the other hand look very sound.

As to Matty's point - I first watched the side at the White City. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly - on and off the park. Manager material or not ;) you just seperate the wheat from the chaff after a while. Sparky is a decent manager, probably not as good as our best, probably not as bad as our worst (please god). I hope he can do the business but those Fulham signings worry me.
