I can understand Johnson, and Nelson as they bring experience, leadership and some quality - but Murphy? Do we really need him as well? We definitely lacked premiership experienced players last year, but how many do we need? Im sure there will be some good younger players to sign still, but I dont see why we need as many "older" players as we seem to be linked with.
As already posted, Barton will be out until at least November (may not even make the 25 in August). And Faurlin will be still trying to get fully fit when the season starts. No need to rush him like they did with Rowlands.
If Diakite doesn't sign, QPR will need someone like Murphy.

Some of the players we are looking at are likely to be back up players, and players have longer careers these days
Green - 32
Onouha - 25
Ferdinand - 27
Hill - 33
Fabio - 21
Tarbs - 23
Faurlin - 25
Diakite - 23
Traore - 22
Zamora - 31
Cisse - 30.
This is an average age of 26.5, hardly old. A side in our position (ie looking to become an established PL side) needs, IMO, to have plenty of experienced heads. Honestly think we have a perfect blend of youth and experience as it is.You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

If anything I think Hill will be the one to drop out of that, maybe for Nelsen? Wouldnt myself, but I can see Sparkie doing so.You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

The average age will soon start increasing if we continue the way we have been headed just recently, and my worry has been a lack of pace alongside Cisse. Fabio and Diakite on the other hand look very sound.
As to Matty's point - I first watched the side at the White City. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly - on and off the park. Manager material or not ;) you just seperate the wheat from the chaff after a while. Sparky is a decent manager, probably not as good as our best, probably not as bad as our worst (please god). I hope he can do the business but those Fulham signings worry me.Last edited by hal9thou; 22-06-2012, 02:15 AM.
