  • why its hard to forgive ray wilkins

ray was a trully fantastic midfield player but as a manager

oh dear oh dear oh dear

if only he had kept ferdinand for another two seasons

by then he could have developed gallen and dichio and i think we could have sold ferdinand and still kept our prem existance, but many qpr fans like myself knew of gallens existance but we never realised dichios potential..................in one eight game run dichio scored an amazing eight goals

Sir Les wanted a new challenge, a club that was challenging for the league, let not forget he was hitting in his late 20s at the time.

Once a player drop a hint they want a move there is no point keeping a unhappy player at the club, at least he left Qpr on a good note

i think sir les would have been on his way whoever the manager was... we couldn't afford to turn down £6m back then.

what i can't forgive is how badly wilkins wasted the money...

ned zelic - £1.25m, until the arrival of puncheon, possibly our biggest waste of money ever.

mark hateley - £1.5m for a 34 year old with shot legs and a charley big potatoes ego. i still have nightmares about hateley randomly knocking the ball down to imaginary players every two minutes and then throwing his hands up in disgust that said imaginary player had failed to bury the ball in the back of the net.

simon osborn - bought for £1.1m, did nothing for us for 6 months, sold to wolves and then seemed to score everytime he played against us after that.

I thought selling Darren Peacock did more to get us relegated than any other single act.

Simon Osborn still turns out, great coming off the back four and showing for the ball, loses his marker at will. Could not score from a penalty, great save from my son the goalie in the QPR top he is allowed to play in perhaps put him off

              Ted let me enlighten you with the facts;

Wilkins is the kiss of death at any football club. He sold Les because Wilkins was an agents man, I read and remember nearer the time he pocketed 15% of the transfer fee!
He always had to buy a really expensive player and sell an expensive player, he did this at QPR, Portsmouth, Chelsea, Fulham and Milwall or whereever he has been an assistant/coach. Where ever he's gone the club goes in financial trouble, it wasn't anything to do with Les wanting to leave.

                but it

but it wasnt just the fact that he sold sir les and bought a load of turkey he had in dichio a potential superstar

if gerry francis had been manager he could have got dichio to be worth five million pound

we all thought gallen was the man

and yes kevin was a great player but dichio should have been given more games that next season

Wilkins used to stand against the dugout and not move for 90 minutes that we invariably lost. His signings were inept. Bad memories. But why bring this up all of a sudden, what about Houston, Harford (god bless him), hart, sousa, loads of pony managers since the wilkins days

agree with most of that apart from Osborne, don't think he got a run out due to Wilkins picking the team and Osborne in direct competion with Wilkins midfield place
I must away now, I can no longer tarry

i actually always thought osborn was ok... was more miffed that we paid big for him, didn't use him well (and i totally agree - that was wilkins fault), sold him at a loss and then afterwards, to really drill the point home, he's always have a stormer against us (usually getting a goal). completely wilkins mismanagement.

i agree about dichio too - honestly thought him and gallen would turn into a great front pairing, but wilkins was too matey with hateley to have them as a starting front two.

(fwiw, i've got australian cousins who were baffled about zelic's poor performance... they really fancied him and thought he'd be a big player. didn't zelic once claim, after he'd left us, that he'd rather work in a builder's yard for the rest of his life than spend 5 minutes working under 'super' ray wilkins)

                        well the whole episode

well the whole episode is disgusting why oh why did rodney marsh open his big mouth and upset gerry francis that meant he left us for tottenham

as soon as we lost gerry we were in for trouble

gerry would never have sold les ferdinand

if we hadnt lost lovely les we would have stayed in the prem

we have lost 15 seasons due to the sale of ferdinand

                        and it really hurts

Sorry I cant forgive the Crab for what he done to our club he drove it into the ground! lots of poor descisions selling and buying, and as a few previous posters are correct that Osborne didn't get a fair crack at it because if he played it would mean that Wilkins would have to leave himself out? I also think Wilkins has a very big ego, you tell that by how patronising he is on sky.

                            we

our team needed more than anything a manager who could stableize us I think that if francis had stayed we would not have dropped out of the prem

gerry proved he could buy at the right prices and sold at profit

                            we should have kept ferdinand

its possible we could have sold impey and sinclair and replaced them but under no circumstances would francis have sold ferdinand

SIR LES WAS QUEENS PARK RANGERS PLAYING WITH FERDINAND WAS LIKE HAVING AN EXTRA MAN ON THE PITCH,HE WAS THE GREATEST EVER STRIKER IN THE HISTORY OF QPR WHY OH WHY DID
                            THE CRAB SELL HIM

there can be no forgiveness for his sale and even in 100 years time we will never forget the loss of sir les
