  • Played their part: 3 Hill

"Here at www.qpr.co.uk we take a look at the players who were involved in last season's successful fight against relegation …

    Clint Hill
    Appearances: 25
    Goals: 0
    Assists: 2

What a season last campaign proved to be for Clint Hill. Highs, lows and everything you can imagine in between, the former Crystal Palace defender went through the lot - and came out smiling.

The start of the campaign couldn't have been any worse for the 33 year-old. Playing at left-back and on the receiving end of a 4-0 scoreline at home to Bolton, Hill was given his marching orders after an off-the-ball incident involving Martin Petrov.

A three-match ban followed and Hill suddenly found himself back in the Championship as he was deemed surplus to requirements in W12 and loaned to Nottingham Forest.

However, his three-month spell at the City Ground barely lasted a month as Hill was recalled owing to injuries at QPR. His first game back in West London was against Chelsea - a match the R's famously won 1-0.

With his future uncertain, the Liverpudlian produced a series of committed displays to remain a part of the squad and when Mark Hughes came in and switched him to centre-back, he was given a new lease of life.

One man-of-the-match performance after another led to Hill being one of the first names on the team-sheet, and he even managed to pop up with a goal too. Not that you will find it recorded anywhere!

In a huge relegation six-pointer against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium, Hill powered Joey Barton's corner goal-wards. The ball crossed the line before Trotters keeper Adam Bogdan could get his arm to it. Crucially this wasn't spotted by any of the match officials and the game continued. Bolton went on to win the fixture.

Despite that disappointment, Hill maintained his high level of performance for the remainder of the season and helped the R's keep three clean sheets on the spin in our final home games, which ultimately secured our Premier League status.

Hill was named Players' Player and Supporters' Player of the Season for his efforts."
