Samba Diakite joined QPR on loan from French side Nancy at the end of the January transfer window - and what an impact he would have on Rangers.
Not too much was known about the Mali international when Mark Hughes brought him in but, after waiting patiently for his African Cup of Nations involvement to end, QPR fans were given their first glimpse when he made his debut against Fulham at Loftus Road.
It would prove to be a game to forget for the 23 year-old as he was sent off after just 33 minutes for two bookable offences. The Cottagers won the match 1-0.
But after serving a one-game ban, Diakite returned and soon showcased the abilities that had made Hughes so keen to bring him in. His incredible engine, deceptive pace, ability to keep possession and the ease with which he could drift past players made him a vital presence in the Rangers midfield.
His only goal for the R's was memorable - and vital. With the home game against Arsenal tied at 1-1, Jamie Mackie got the better of Thomas Vermaelen on the right before pulling the ball back to the unmarked Diakite who coolly found the top corner. The game was won and the debut dismissal was forgotten."
