  • QPR chief raises prospect of ground share

QPR chief executive Philip Beard admits the club cannot afford to build a new stadium without incorporating a cinema, restaurant or casino - or even ground share with a team from another sport.
Rangers are looking to move out of Loftus Road, which is the smallest ground in the Premier League, and are attempting to identify a site near their current west London home.
But Beard admits the club has to have a bigger fanbase before they can even consider moving - and says that a football-only stadium would not work.

    That all seems about right.

We're all aware of the limitations we have, and it's good to see they're looking at ways of doing it, but are still aware we don't have the fanbase size yet.

what a mis- leading headline, but all makes sense. I think we should bring Wasps back plus add a retractable running track, these additions would cover most of the year, add concerts, big fight night, plus cinema, hotels, casino all with-in spitting distance if central london and we are set.
      Kept the faith!

Wouldn't want it any other way either. With the right pepple at the top guiding us, we can put in place all the things that will help to make us more self sustainable.

Along the A4 corridor (Hillingdon) would be a perfect location for an all singing, all dancing Stadium/Hotel/Entertainment complex, which would make it viable to operate 24/7 but more importantly, it would attract some of the tens of thousands of kids/families who do not currently go to football for what ever reason. It will be a wrench leaving W12, but i looks like we will move at some stage, its just a case of where. Local would be ideal and my first choice, but I just cant see the land being made available, to do what they want, at a price they would be happy to pay. More importantly QPR's fans of the future are not going to come from around W12, like they used to, so they should tap into an area they could exploit for generations to come.

Hospitality and everyday revenue opportunktes are key. A stadium that possibly only generate money on 19 occasions in 12 months is no use.

We need all year hotel / cinema / restaurant / casino options, and loads of corporate meeting / function / hospitality availablity. Many businesses would buy into it. They could arrange packages etc, such as high meeting rooms on Friday, play golf locally (again partnerships / colaborations with local venues) in the afternoon, enjoy the casino in the evening, stay over in the hotel overnight and then take in a match at the weekend.... they could charge fortunes, and there would be countless various opportunities such as this.

There should be a system to remove some seating at one end with a retractable stage so they can accomodate concerts and maximise the tickets they could sell for them, there should be all required links feeds put in under the pitch to allow a central stage for events such as boxing and they could get a lot of use out of a new custom built stadium / arena.

I'm confident we have the right people on board to make sure when it's done, it will be done right and we won't suffer as some other clubs have with new stadiums.

Well we are a growing football club now and we are in a fantastic catchment area with one of the more valuable football grounds in the Premiership. W12 is a gold mine concerning building land.

I would consider buying the BBC site or the old dairy sire as that would be a prime area although I would imagin both are being sold for houses.

It will certainly need facilities to accomodate other functions.

Hotel and Casino the way forward.

                    My mind racing..........

Not 5 minutes from Warren Farm is the Gillette Building which has, I believe, permission to be turned into a luxury hotel with Casino and other A3 / A1 activities (ie nightclub, bar, shops etc)
                    Only 15 minutes from Heathrow.
Only 1 minute from the new Sky "Media Village"

                    A shift further West?

Hopefully my mind racing too fast as I'd hate to leave W12 even though Gillettes only round the corner from Ealing!!!!!!

Forget the BBC and Dairy Crest -- Helical Bar will have / have got them sewn up and there is simply no way a football club could afford or make viable the cost per square foot of this land. It will be town houses with some anti-social housing thrown in to appease planners unless the local council make it very, very, very, very difficult for cash rich developers!
I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.

Fook em, we can buy their land and stadium so we can build a nice stadium, and they can go move into a bin or something.

Totaly agree. Although would hate to move from W12, looking to the future we would need a ground in an area where a new generation of fans will come from, and the area mentioned above would do that. catchment area ect no other club....

If it was in any way possible to stay in W12 it must be looked at, but financialy and for other reasosns too, would appear to make more sense to relocate somewhere else.

Either way, its exciting to hear the board are still looking into it, and discussing it. Its a massive step into making us an established "ambitious" premier league club

Yeah, but where are we going to find a bin small enough to accommodate Bentfart?
