IF Beckford became available tomorrow (we have made enquires), then I suspect 4-5 teams from the championship would come in for him. Some still have parachute payments and I wouldn't make him our biggest earner based on what he has done in Div 1 either.

Its not easy either, to get a player like that in.

"All his goals have been scored in Division 1 against teams we would probably beat every week"

unlike picadilli then who we have bought and given a what 3 year contract? and he only got 6 or 8 Beckford scored a hatfull 2 years on the trot!

Big difference, Piccadilly is not in our first team and not much of a risk regards the fee.

I think we had to get something for Dex as he was seeing out his contract.

It is obvious that we need a striker, we were the joint bottom scorers last year in the league.

All teams that go up have goal scorers, look at wolves and birmingham last year.

Our strikers are all not 'out and out' strikers they play from deep , we need the box player to finish off our good play.

We scored 10 goals in what, 7 games?? Against teams that are all poorer than CCC level.

              Thats s.hit.

Secondly no one can garentee 20 goals, but people like Lita, Beckford etc will give you the best chance of someone getting 20.

Pete, please stop telling me I've only given it one game mate...I've supported this club all my life and as far as the striker sittuation goes, I've been saying it Furs left us. Even with Dex we still needed a NATURAL GOAL SCORER. Over the last 2 seasons we've seen strikers like Clinton Morrison, Michael Chopra, Michael Paterson, Ebankes-Blake, Fraser Campbell and Leroy Lita all go to other CCC clubs, most of whom are no better than us. Out of thouse clubs, Hull, Burnley, Wolves and Cardiff have either been promoted or at the very least been in contention at some point...why??? Because their owners have gone out and supported their managers by making available funds to get these strikers to the club. Wolves gambled on players like Keightly, Vokes and Keogh and it paid of. West Brom have signed two strikers both from lower league sides and they already had a far superior strike force to us yet still are happy to add to it.

I can't work out why you still think £3m is too big a gamble.
                Your mum would love me...

Unfortunately its not Pete you need to persuade, its the board - and they clearly aren't spending. If they wouldn't sign Lita on a Bosman there is no way they will buy Beckford. They demand success but refuse to pay the going rate for it. They always want it on the cheap, and in fairness they have done v well with the likes of Gorkes, Buz and Cerny. But proven, goal scoring strikers always cost proper money.
The only possible way of going up on the cheap is with stability and patience leaving a brilliant manager in charge for several seasons while developing a great youth and scouting network. But can you see Flavio being that patient?

All this Flavio is not patient stuff is starting to grate big time-if he would release some funds to Gianni, sorry Jim and John,to buy a striker then we would be getting promoted, and he would have fame.fortune,women,respect,happiness,power,..

My point Rblock is that Flavio can't have it both ways. Like all of us I'd like to see him spend the money to get us promoted but if he isn't prepared to do that then fair enough, its his money - but he shouldn't then blame our repeated failure on the manager by sacking one every time we don't win a few matches.

tarraabt is clearly not a striker.

he does not have what it takes.
