  • We are in absolute desperate need for a commanding centre half

I am absolutely astounded with all the excitement over new signings that the priority position to fill next season is that of a new centre half of potential captain material yet all on here seem to be overlooking it.

Our present crop of centre halves are just not good enough to turn us into a mid table team. Hill will do a job but for me Onuha is a RB not CH and Anton Ferdinand is a below average defender in the PL. Seen enough from last season, we need a Samba type player to fill the gapping hole in the centre of our defence.

Chris Samba would be immense but others on here say it's not possible because not allowed to play for three clubs in a year ruling:rage:
I must away now, I can no longer tarry
This morning's tempest I have to cross
I must be guided without a stumble

It would definitely be possible. Samba played for 2 sides last season but if he signed for another club for the 2012/13 season that would be fine!

Paper talk is just that. I'm sure Rigg has a very nice list of players that the papers not even heard of.

I myself have touted a few good young defenders in various posts, think between everyone on the board we've covered every position 7 times :=):

I totally agree, we need a big defender that will not mess around, someone like Samba
              Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
              And many more mistakes

LES FERDINAND, IT'S TIME TO GO

I personally see Ferdinand and Kenny as the weak links in our defence

We know Kenny is off but I am worried we will be lumbered with Ferdinand at CH, switches off far too easily for my liking

we need 1-2 new cb IMO. Hill hasn't even signed the new deal yet so atm we've only got Ferdinand and Matt connolly as CB's(if you count Onouha as a RB).

I think Ferdinand improved with Hill alongside him as he needs somewhere to talk to him, tell him where to go,what to do etc,but as said is still prone to switching off. Still feel we need 2 x CB's as Onohua will never make a CB aslong as he has a hole in his ####.
Chris Samba is ideal but he would cost alot to bring back to England. Could Jagielka be tempted from Everton?

I don't think MH is overlooking the CH position. Otherwise he wouldn't have released 4 of them - Hall, Shittu, Gabbidon & Ramage.
It's clear to me we need 1 or 2 additions in that area, I can't see Perone being on the payroll in September and Connolly is 5th choice in Prem league at best. I wouldn't be surprised if we are keen on Samba still but I doubt we'll pay £12m for anyone, let alone a CH. so there may be alot of negotiating to do there.
Also, I suspect Hughes knows more about Onouha's ability at CH vs. RB than any of us do.
Strange if he's bringing in a Full Back (Fabio) ahead of Nedum and Young.

You never know. Just look at Clint last year for example.

                        Who'd have thought it!

Matt Mills anyone? Not played a lot for Leicester but was amazing at Reading and I think everyone wanted him when he was there

Apparently he's told Twente he wants a move to Newcastle
