Barton punched in face in nightclub row

Joey Barton has been involved in a fracas outside a nightclub in Liverpool.
The controversial QPR midfielder was punched in the face in a fight with two men outside Garlands nightclub in the city centre.
A picture of the incident, apparently showing a shirtless Barton being held back by police and a woman, appeared on Twitter.

Sky Sports News presenters are struggling to keep a straight face, and this appears to be the general feeling elsewhere as well.

          I don't think it's funny, if he's just been assaulted outside a nightclub, it's disgusting if that's what's happened.

Might be out of season but is still being paid by the club, After what happened at City he knows he will be a target so why put yourself in that position.

think you've answered your own question there. if certain English players didn't abuse their very expensive bodies so much they wd be better athletes and better players. no one is saying players have to be chained to their homes, especially in the close season, but savvy celebrities know they can have a fun evening out without being spotted or getting into any sort of bother. Its just about using the brain - for those that have them.

You realise the worst JT can get is a £2500 fine and a criminal record?

So let's get this straight joey goes out to a club like normal footballers do when it is off season. He then gets attacked leaving the night club and now he is a bad guy come on some of you lot are a joke to be honest I will probably get slating for saying that but it's true. He has done nothing wrong here so why are people saying thug an all this when he has done nothing at all ?

I didn't ask a question, someone said a captain should be a role model and I just showed them they were talking ********.

Yes, he may well have been an innocent victim in this latest incident but he shouldn't have been there in the first place. The guy is currently under investigation by the club for his conduct and he should being having a few quiet nights in. It's not rocket science.

Why go to a Liverpool nightclub at that time of the morning? How was that ever going to end peacefully?
It's the close season we're not training at the moment, it is still a free country although your crowd have done their best to make this not the case

Yep country was so much better when skinheaded thugs were going around attacking each other - and innocent people - at football matches wasn't it? Not quite sure what Abu Hamsa has to do with it but if the Mail turned you down as a leader writer and you have nowhere else to vent your spleen about the modern world I can only offer my commiserations....
